Photographer's Note
When I framed this in camera the flags were vertical and the Roman Catholic Assumption cathedral from the 14th century at left was leaning heavily to the right. I tried correcting it a bit in photoshop as the cathedral and the Statue of Avram Iancu atop the obelisk now seem more important.
"The Statue of Avram Iancu is located on stone blocks that symbolize the rocks of the Apuseni Mountains. The statue is encircled by a fountain. Avram Iancu was a Transylvanian lawyer, one of the leaders of the 1848–1849 revolt in Transylvania. Being the leader of an army in collaboration with the Austrian military authorities, he organized the defense of the Apuseni Mountains and resisted numerous attacks by Hungarian revolutionary groups."

The "alpenhorns" look like baseball bats and the statue is nicknamed the Cluj baseball player. Neither locals nor tourists are impressed with the statue or sculpture which dates from the early 90's. But behind me here is the National Theatre Building which is lovely. At right is the Orthodox Theological Seminary Cluj-Napoca, another stylish building.

Hello Chris,
More than eight years have passed since I was in Cluj-Napoca, and I don't clearly remember this place. What I do remember is that I found it the nicest major city of Romania, even though perhaps not the most beautiful. I liked the lively and youthful atmosphere created by the thousands of students from all over Europe. It's a bright and attractive photo and the monument with the baseball bats makes some impression after all.
Regards,
Gert

Hello Chris,
Indeed a remarkable sculpture that certainly does not suits in this environment.
Furthermore, the Romanian flags stand out. All the national flag while you would expect one EU flag at least here. Unfortunately a bit nationalistic.
The correction of the perspective was fine. The photo is more natural.
Excellent work.
Have a nice day. Groet Rob

Hello Chris,
I often find myself trying to correct camera distortion, too, it does make the photograph easier on the eye. This looks fine.
The flags, on their tall vertical poles, make a colourful, f/g feature, nicely balancing the cathedral and tall statue, that you have so successfully corrected.
The light is lovely, especially for November, brightening the features and creating long shadows.
Do you know what those spheres are, at the bottom of the flagpoles?
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

BOnjour Chris,
Les drapeaux attire le regard. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails des drapeaux, de la statue et de la cathédrale. La qualité de la lumière embellit les couleurs de l'image. Bonne journée.

Hello Chris,
The flags care for colour during the dark days in December.
Lovely composition and pleasant presentation.
Sharpness and clarity are pleasant to look at.
Very well done, TFS.

Hello Chris,
The composition is very well balanced between the church and the monument at left and the Romanian flags in front of the two small towers at right. The light was wonderful and helped to saturate the colours so well. Excellent work with great sharpness.

Hello Chris,
I remember well this rather strange monument in front of the cathedral. also, I remember that there were many yellow buildings. I was in Romania 8 years ago, difficult to believe how the time flies. Nice Romanian flags. It seems very cold there.
And here is National Theater: http://beta.trekearth.com/viewphotos.php?l=7&p=1374420.
Kind regards MAlgo

Ciao Chris
una bella e ricca composizione, dove le bandiere fanno da forte attrattiva grazie al loro colore, ma dove si possono ammirare anche belle architetture, monumenti e persone.

The Romania flags gave extra vivid tones upon the cathedral and the park around it, Chris.
The picture is immaculately clear and distinct. One remark though: a notable vignetting done with polarizing-filter (that's why I gave up on such a filter).
Have a nice weekend,

Hi Chris
a few things...first...on my latest photo...I 1000000% agree with you. The worst thing a government can do is eliminate Psychiatric Hospitals, yet for some reason they keep doing it. Makes NO sense. I could rant and rave and write 10 pages of reasons why...but this is not the forum for that. Second, I think i'm in the very minority on TE when it comes to distortions. I enjoy them, I believe it makes the scene more unique and gives a strong strong visual impact - but thats just me. Thirdly, I honestly do not know anything about this city, and I dont' think many Canadians know much about Romanian cities in general, sad to say. Fourth, interesting to learn locals don't like the sculpture, thats too bad, but sometimes a 'bad' sculpture makes it that much more interesting. Its a lovely shot with strong royal blues, allowing the flags to POP. I like it. cheers

Hello Chris,
I think your correction was just right. I have very sensitive eyes to tilts in photos and I don't detect any tilt at first sight. Nicely done! (Remember, flagstaffs aren't always perfectly perpendicular to the ground.)
Regards,
MT
