Saschiz Fortified Church

Another fortified church and also one which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site
(along with six others in Transylvania). This one is located in the small village of Saschiz,
not far from the town of Sighişoara. The Saschiz fortified church (Biserica fortificată din
Saschiz) is a Gothic church, which was completed in 1496. As it was built by the ethnic
German Transylvanian Saxons, it became Lutheran after the Reformation.

En fin kyrka med ett mycket imponerande torn. Du hade ett bra ljus från den här vinkeln men också förmånen att kunna inkludera gräsmattan fylld av gula blommor. En riktigt bra bild.

Yet one more church with a beautiful clock tower, Lars.
1832 built and probably renovated since, the edifice has an imposing sight from the fair distance taken from. Lovely the dandelion flowers on the green.

we can see as the tower was built as a tower of castle and received the roof of a church after. excellent this sample of architecture. nice use of the flowers in the ground too.

Another good photo of a fortified church, this one with an interesting puzzle. Built in 1496 but with the date 1832 on the roof.

Hello Lars, Another interesting church with a huge tower. Not so old this time. I haven't been there. Marvelous yellow flowers (dandelions?)in the grass.

In Romania, there are three kinds of unique churches - these fortified, painted in Suceava region and also wooden. I wonder if you visited them also.

Very interesting architecture -I don't think I have seen a picture of it before and yet I think I would be able to recognize the country, I think they have something characteristic in the style of the churches and castles in this region.

Hello Lars,

This is an excellent, sharp photograph of the Gothic Church! You show how it displays the character of a castle, with its fortified tower.
I love to see the flowers surrounding the building, confirming its sense of religious rather than powerful use.
