Photographer's Note

The castle was built in 1873-1883. It is located in Sinaia and it is one of the most important museums in our country. In 1866 King Carol I came in Sinaia (at that time named Podu Neagului) and he has been lodged at Sinaia Monastery. He was impressed by the landscape and he chose the location for the castle. The castle’s name is drawn from the neighboring brooks which pass through the courtyards.
The castle is built in German Renaissance style, but has also elements that belonging to the Italian Renaissance, Gothic, Baroque and Rococo style.
Peles was built in wood, stone, bricks and marble.
Its terraces are decorated with statues, stone-wells, vases and marble. In every room there are impressive statues, ceramics, gold and silver plates, Sevres porcelain and an important weapon collection. It ranges over 160 halls, richly furnished in German, English, Italian, French, Hispano-Moresque style.
