Monument in Paracin.

The first Balkan war (October 8, 1912 - May 30, 1913) was fought between the Balkan allies (Bulgaria, Serbia, Montenegro and Greece) and Turkey. The Ottoman Empire, which had already been shaken by the Young Turk Revolution in 1908, was further weakened in 1912 by the war against Italy. This weakness of Turkey is used by the Balkan countries and they start a war against Turkey with the goal of liberating the territories of the Balkans that are under Turkish rule. The war began on October 8, 1912, when Montenegro declared war on Turkey. The Serbian army won two important victories in the battles near Kumanovo and Bitola, which liberated the whole of Macedonia.

Dissatisfaction with the division of the conquered Turkish territories, especially Macedonia, led to the Second Balkan War (June 29 - August 10, 1913). On June 29, 1913, on the orders of General S. Kochev, a Bulgarian military unit attacked Serbian forces on the Bregalnica River (the so-called Battle of Bregalnica), and on June 30, Greek forces in the Thessaloniki area. The Greek army, under the command of King Constantine, defeated the Bulgarians at the Battle of Kukush, where both sides suffered heavy losses. Although the Bulgarian government tried to challenge the war operations against Serbia and Greece, they declared war on Bulgaria on July 8, 1913. They were soon joined by Montenegro and Romania, as well as Turkey, with a desire to regain some areas it had lost during the First Balkan War.

The First World War lasted from 1914 to 1918. It was attended by most of the world's great powers, grouped into two conflicting military alliances: the Allies (gathered around the Triple Entente) and the Central Powers. More than 70 million people were under arms, of which over 60 million people in Europe were mobilized in one of the greatest wars in history. The consequences of the war were that more than 15 million people were killed, 20 million were wounded, and the direct participants in the war suffered enormous destruction of states and economies. The First World War is also known as the Great War and the World War.
