Photographer's Note

According to a legend, the founder of the city of Ljubljana was Jason who fought in this place, together with his Argonauts, a terrible dragon! Probably the many slovenian legeds involving devilish reptiles of any kind can be traced back to the vicinity of Karstic plateau and its peculiar fauna. The region of Ljubljana is rich of thousands of deep caves and underground rivers, populated by small white and blind amphibians called "Protei". Once they reach the surface, not being used to light exposure, their skin color rapidly assume a red tint. This created in the ancient ages the idea that this protei were fire creatures (usually called Salamanders) coming directly from the plutonian depths of the Hell...

The dragon can now be found in the araldic shield of the city, visible at Ljubljana castle, overlooking this lively and cultural city, but also in one of the landmarks of this small european capital, the Dragon Bridge.

The bridge’s original name has faded into oblivion and was unofficially renamed the Dragon Bridge, because of the characteristic four bronze dragon sculptures decorating its ends. Small sparrows seem to enjoy their protective presence...
