Balconies of Avda. Maritima, have been admired in his books by the various travelers who visited the island in the nineteenth century, painted in ink, oil and watercolors by local artists and photographed by all kinds of professional and amateur portraitist, the wooden balconies of the promenade are the best set of corbels preserved in the Canary Islands.

Its peculiarity is given generally by the different types of balcony gather in such a short space, and, especially, by the quantity and quality of so-called double balconies, Lusitanian influence, reminiscent of the Portuguese adufas.

It is actually a resource designed for ventilation of dwellings of two or more plants of the main street (street and Pérez de Brito O'Daly) from the rear, the side of the marina or rising from where the inhabitants enjoyed the action of the lower, cool and humid trade winds, north or northeast direction.

Los Balcones de la Avda. Marítima, han sido admirados en sus libros por los distintos viajeros que visitaron la isla en el siglo xix, pintados a plumilla, al óleo y a la acuarela por artistas locales y fotografiados por toda clase de profesionales y retratistas amateurs, los balcones de madera de la avenida Marítima constituyen el mejor conjunto de saledizos conservado en Canarias.

Su peculiaridad viene dada, generalmente, por las distintas tipologías de balcón que se reúnen en tan corto espacio, y, de manera especial, por la cantidad y calidad de los llamados balcones dobles, de influencia lusitana, que recuerdan las adufas portuguesas.

Se trata, en realidad, de un recurso ideado para la ventilación de las viviendas de dos o más plantas de la calle principal (calles O’Daly y Pérez de Brito) por su parte trasera, el lado de la marina o naciente, desde donde los moradores gozaban de la acción de los vientos alisios inferiores, frescos y húmedos, de dirección norte o noreste.

Hello Luis,
These buildings surprise me because I was ignorant enough to be unaware of this style. The are truly magnificent and a joy for a photographer. You show them from a favourable angle which provides a good view along the street. The palms and other trees frame the view nicely and the handling of light and colours is immaculate.

Hello Luis,
The different balconies look very nice and special. They are the same style, but many elements are still different. The plants on the railings and the overhanging trees around the composition add fine, green colours.

por alguna razón, esta foto me hace recordar algún recanto de colombia. si, yo se que hay muchos balcones españoles en muchas partes, pero pienso que estas plantas son el elemento que me hicieron recordar. preciosa esta vista con las bellas fachadas.

PS. To reply to your comment on Crystal Nightclub, the building behind was gutted by fire. But since it was a historic building, they kept the outer walls and built a new steel and glass building inside the outer shell.
