One afternoon with excellent weather gave me the opportunity to take a few good shots in the proximity of the Refugio de los Cabrones. The ridge in the background connects the highest peak in the Picos de Europa, Torre Cerredo (2648 m, also called Torrecerredo and La Tore Cerréu) that is somewhere on the left, with the prominent triangular Picu de los Cabrones (2553 m) on the right. This is certainly not the amount of snow one would expect to find in Spain at the end of June, but Picos are located very close to the Atlantic and receive a lot of precipitations. This year was unusually snowy and for this reason many of the routes required crampons and ice axe for the crossing of steep snow field. The image was taken from the slope behind the hut, while I was waiting for supper to be served.
