Photographer's Note

A Sunday afternoon a few weeks ago I took a walk along the southwestern shores of Södermalm island. I don't go that way very often, because it's mainly a park area which doesn't offer the unexpected encounters in the streets that I most enjoy, but I wanted a change from my usual routes.

I took a handful of photos along the way, whenever I could avoid joggers, people walking their dogs, cyclists and families blocking my way.

The main photo shows three friends taking a rest by the water, which is a bay of Mälaren, Sweden's third largest lake (out of more than 100.000), stretching more than 130 km from here to its western shores. In the distance is one of two parallel railway bridges. The one seen here was opened in 1929.

In the background is one of the most rapidly growing districts of Stockholm, where an old area of mainly small industries and warehouses is being transformed into a mainly residential area.

There are two photos from the same Sunday afternoon walk in the WS.
