The Bohuslän Coast
A chain of islands linked by a thread of bridges and short ferry crossings make up the region of Bohuslän where, despite the summer crowds, it’s still easy enough to find a private spot to swim. Sailing is also a popular pastime among the many Swedes who have summer cottages here, and all the way along the coast you’ll see yachts gliding through the water.

The Bohuslän coast stretches from Gothenburg, one of Sweden’s three largest cities, northwards to the border with Norway, and beside this coastline lies the Western Archipelago, a spectacular seascape of 8,000 islands, islets, skerries and rocky outcrops. But what can you do there? Part of the pleasure of visiting the archipelago is getting there, whether by ferry or your own boat. On the larger islands there are convenient guest harbours for mooring up while the coast also offers a range of hotels, restaurants and activities such as kayaking, canoeing, diving and other water sports. And perhaps best of all, the islands are all so easy to reach, from Gothenburg and many points all along the coastline.

A skerry is a small rocky island, usually defined to be too small for habitation; it may simply be a rocky reef. A skerry can also be called a low sea stack.
The term skerry is derived from the Old Norse sker, which means a rock in the sea. The Old Norse term sker was brought into the English language via the Scots language word spelled skerrie or skerry.

In Swedish, the word for archipelago is skärgård, meaning “garden of skerries,” skerries being rocky islands sticking up from the sea.

Hello Trevor,
The light is most attractive and the composition pleasantly balanced. A fine clear image with excellent colours. Useful note as well.

Hej Trevor,

Intressant text dessutom!
Hälsningar
Gunnar
