Higher than thou, a photo from Sodermanland, Svealand

Photographer's Note

I was on my way home after doing some shopping, when I happened to glance into a short side street and found this view.

Although I had a fairly heavy shopping bag in one hand I managed to take a few photos of the man fixing something on the wall of a house.

A brightly dressed man at work, standing on top of a red crane under a blue sky and seemingly above the tower of the 17th century Maria Magdalena kyrka. How could I resist such a photo opportunity?

I have shown this church before, from various angles, and even an interior. It's only two blocks from my house. Map: view will show you this place.

Hello Gert, of course you had to capture this scene.
The triangular shape created by the arm of the crane is the perfect frame for the church tower.
And we have the added interest of the man in his high vis clothes busy with his task.
( I am wondering what he is doing exactly?)
The beautiful blue sky complements the whole scene.

Hi Gert,sometimes it happens to me too to see such scenes, and often I am tempted to ask to be able to get on the platform to take pictures, it would be a unique POV, but I know that no one would agree due to the stringent safety rules. Sollyset ser nu langt mere forårsagtigt ud her og gives kirketårnet nogle fine farver mod den blå himmel. Kontrasten med den røde kran i skyggen er meget god og stærk. Godt set, fanget og komponeret.

The visual illusion of the man standing above the tower is quite amusing. I also really like how the church is framed by the crane and the vivid colours: blue, red and yellow.

Hello Gert,

I have this lovely picture of you, in my head, of carrying a heavy shopping bag in one hand but armed with a camera in the other!

It is fortunate that you had your camera or this could have been missed! The sloping line of the crane and the adjacent wall, make the perfect frame for the church tower. The two circular windows of the church become eyes, carefully watching what is happening in your f/g!
