Barefoot in Basel, a photo from Basel Stadt, West

I have visited Basel numerous times but don’t have as many photos of this lovely town as I would like to have. Recently Bev has shared some photos which reminded me my visits there. Scrolling through TrekEarth gallery from Basel I noticed that one of my favourite spots there, Barfuesserplatz, is not represented. The name of the square refers to the church located at this square which was converted to a museum (Historisches Museum Basel) but was once a Barfuesserkirche, taking this photo I had it actually behind my back but the highlight is actually this view and not the church. Barfuesserkirche means in German a church (Kirche) of Barefoot Carmelites.

I am struggling recently with the brightness of photos. When I prepare photos in the evening and watch them during the day, they are too dark. It is all these screens which are changing the brightness according to the available light. This photo I did a bit brighter than I would normally do to compensate for it.

mervielleuse vue de l'ancienne ville d Bern toutes ces belles maison tout en couleur collées avec la tour quei ressort et cette place et cette animation et les personnages sueprbe.

This is a very attractive part of the city indeed! How is it possible that no one had ever posted a picture of it before you? The narrow houses are so charming with their small windows and differently coloured shutters. The row of large houses behind the first and on top of a hill makes a great backdrop, too. The people add a very appealing mood. Great cityscape!

Hi Mariusz,
Beautiful square on the old town of Basel. Row of houses and background create splendid collection of Swiss architecture. Sloping angle of the square makes this more dynamic. I also like those pavement patterns.

Ja byłam w Bazylei trzy dni, bardzo mi sie podobała i duzo zobaczyłam. Mam mnóstwo zdjęć, z czego kilka na TE. Nie przypominam sobie tego placu. Byłam bardzo blisko, bo w Muzeum Sztuk Pieknych i byłam zafaascynowana fontanną Tinguelego o parę kroków. Stare zdjęcie, ale nic się nie zestarzało. Dobre kolory i fanomenalna ostrość. Śliczne te kamieniczki, zwłaszcza ta z niebieskimi okiennicami. Z tyłu wygląda jak zamek.
Przypominiały mi się czasy podróży za komuny. Biorę większość jedzenia ze sobą, bo ceny podobno zabójcze.

Hello Mariusz,

Basel looks to be a charming town. I like the alternating colours of the building's facades. Good depth and sharpness and the people animate the scene and provide scale. The red turrets and roofs contrast well with the sky. Tfs!

Belle présentation de Bâle, le contraste des bâtiments avec l'architecture de l'église ne laisse pas indifférent, la lumière et les couleurs sont belles
Mieux de préparé la photo de jour !
Au sujet des séjours de vacances, l'avantage est que je sais partir en dehors des congés scolaire, que c'est beaucoup moins chère, pour les prochaines je ne sais pas du tout ou je vais aller!!! je regarde les last minute pour les pays lointains, peut être une semaine, mais je n'en suis pas certaine, difficile de laisser Jessie :-)

Hello Mariusz,

This is a delightful shot from Basel.
The details of the patterned surface of the square make an interesting prelude to the eclectic mixture of tall buildings, many with colourful shutters. The buildings are, surprisingly, almost competing with the church tower, for height!
The many figures give a lively, enterprising image to this very attractive scene.

Vividly painted facades and beautiful towers and houses on this square in Basel, Mariusz.
The people around the buses stopes enliven the scene in fine manner.
We visited Basel on June 27th, 2006, but did not stay to meet you in 09/2006...

is this for real? looks like a painting or a toy model of some sort. Perhaps its the HDR type of rendering the photo has. its superb. my goodness, lighting, sky colors, definition, warm ambience, it's got so much going for it. wonderful job here my friend. cheers

A beautiful view of this square, I love the variety of the facades and their touch of color in the line of the square, the second line of buildings with the church and the other very large, which has the appearance of a convent, give a great attraction to the image.
Sharpness, lighting, color, and the magnificent composition; they are all perfectly realized factors, in this beautiful image.

P.S. The volcano S. Antonio is next to the road that goes up from the hotel to the town, and Teneguia is not far, but of all the Caldera de Taburente is the most impressive, here there are two areas from which you can see and you have to little walk not very large, the roads are not wide but in good condition, just go slowly and take a small car that is more comfortable to carry and park.
Bear in mind, that the Canary Islands are all volcanic with which the terrain is very rugged, as it happens to the Azores or Madeira.

mi piace questa piazza, ci sono molte architetture che si accavallano tra di loro e che hanno delle belle facciate.
Io sono passato una sola volta da Basilea e....non mi sono fermato.
Succede spesso anche a me di vedere differenze tra le foto lavorate di giorno o di sera.

I think the clarity of this picture is excellent.
It's amazing that you have visited this city several times. None of the Belgian travelers that I know has visited Basel. Swiss cities are completely unknown here. I guess they're far too expensive.
But looking at the picture I'm convinced Basel is an interesting city. This square for sure looks very beautiful. Quite colourful and a picturesque row of houses with other attractive buildings and a church rising above the first row.
Indeed, surprising that nobody ever uploaded a photo of Barfuesserplatz before. So you're the first one.
