Shiltalp Farm, a photo from Bern, West

Photographer's Note

Shiltalp is small alpine farm that serves food and refreshments. In the background is the summit of the Schilthorn. This photo was taken from a walk that started in the village of Mürren, which can be reached by post bus from Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg, and then by cable car up to Mürren. This walk explores the area to the south and southwest of Mürren. It uses well maintained and signed paths throughout. The views are excellent not only to the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau but also the string of peaks that head west from the latter summit with the Breithorn of particular note. The earlier stages of the route follow the "Northface Trail" with information boards placed at regular intervals describing the routes of ascent for the major peaks in view. Due to lack of time I ended my walk in Gimmelwald where I took the cable car down to Stechelberg, post bus to Lauterbrunnen for train connection back to my base in Grindelwald. I think it is better to stay in the mountain village of Mürren or Gimmelwald to better explore this section of the Jungfrau.

I like this scenery with its autumnal colours very much - and the great note! I've been there many years ago - and not much has changed - thank God! You have had a wonderful light that day - and you caught it very well in your picture!

very nice shot of this amazing country, just visited it yesterday, it`s not really far from where I live ;-)
I really like the contrast of the red umbrellas compared to the surroundings. You also chose a nice POV, very nice!

Hi Latiff, A superb view of the mountain slope with that nice green colour. I presume that was taken during summer, and it looks like the summit would be snow capped in winter with glacier creeping down the gullies. I like the rest house positioned at the bottom right.

What a charming place in the mountains!
Interesting details in this farm making additional business in catering for tourists, must be a great place to spend some time in the fresh mountain air...

This is a great landscape shot with autumn colors. Your composition is great using the slope of the mountain to create a diagonal through the shot. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and DOF. The chalet with it's outdoor dining adds a great human tough to the shot.
