Cooling Off, a photo from Bern, West

They may be difficult to spot, but if you look closely you can see three sheep that decided to beat the heat under the shade of the tree, next to a refreshing waterfall… I actually wanted to join them!

Lauterbrunnen is situated in one of the most impressive trough valleys in the Alps, between gigantic rock faces and mountain peaks. With its thundering waterfalls, secluded valleys, colourful alpine meadows and lonely mountain inns, the Lauterbrunnen Valley is one of the biggest nature conservation areas in Switzerland.

The very name ‘Lauter Brunnen’ (‘many fountains’) suggests the magnificence of this landscape. There are 72 waterfalls in the Lauterbrunnen Valley, the most famous being this one, Staubbach Falls. Plunging almost 300 metres from an overhanging rock face, they are one of the highest free-falling waterfalls in Europe.

Hello Jason,
I like this simple photo very much for its classic and elegant composition and natural colors. Well captured scene and good POV. I like the sheep under the tree very much - they add so much to the whole image.

Lauterbrunnen valley is one of the most beautiful places saw in Switzerland, and I was on this location twice, jason: in 1974 and 6/2006. Your pic. show the closest possible POV of the grand cascade.
funny how those sheeps do not get wet...
Fine view on the waterfall, the place offer many intriguing nature's beauties.

Hello Jason,

A peculiar/not an usual composition, but I like
that when it works very well and it does. On
the left site the picture has now action and on
the right site it's peacefull (the sheeps
emphasize that extra). Left sit is also wet,
the right one is warm (sunlight). The lower
position/pov makes the tree and waterfall extra
higher and that makes the picture extra exciting.
Light management is very good.

Hi Jason,
It is an awesome waterfall, I've been there many times. Looks like fairly windy day with water spearding so widely. Foliage is partly overexposed, but that was hard to avoid especially with a film camera, I guess that's what you had back in 2000.

Hi Jason,
I think overall the photo is composed well. I like that the moving water draws the eye immediately into the frame. You have made a good attempt here, choosing to go in tight on the nice tree. The composition works well, and the focus with deep DOF draws the attention not only to the tree but also to the waterfall behind. The tree itself is very well-exposed. Asymmetrical arrangement creates excellent balance and harmony. Excellent!!!

Hi Jason,
Having heard of the heat in your home city of Phoenix, I felt I needed to visually cool down, so nice to fine this perfectly named and taken capture of the perfect place to do so! I love how the water is almost nothing more than mist, I guess its falling from a great height. Nice to include the sheep hiding under the tree, a nice amusing touch to the whole scene.
