Prince Trubetzkoy Treasures, a photo from Khersonska, East

The overwhelming treasures of Trubetskoy family have eventually been found by us (my son and me). You can see the entrance to the underground treasury in this picture.rnrnWe make no secret that this place is in the urban village of Kozatske, situated on the right bank of the Dnipro River in Berislav’s region (rayon) of Kherson Oblast. There was a luxurious palace of the Russian prince Pyotr Nikolayevich Trubetskoy (1858 – 1911), who was the owner of a big stud-farm, many vineyards and a well-known winery in the neighboring village Vesele (Cheerful). Now the palace is in ruins, but a prince’s descendant from Holland has started its reconstruction. The prince’s winery is now a prosperous wine-making firm with the funny for the former Soviet Union area name “Prince Trubetskoy’s Public Limited Company”.rnrnAs to the prince’s hidden treasures, we found them in springs at the bottom of the palace hill. Crystal-clear and cold water was what we needed after 77 km of cycling from Kherson. This was more valuable matter for us than any other treasures.

A very original and very efficience composition with a very naural FG and the edifice at the top of the hill. The FG is very nice festival of green colors with details of the vegetation very well collected. very nice blue sky too.

I would call it a fresh image :) Very nice cascade. The inclusion of part of the castle makes this very original. The looks beautiful. The tight framing works well. Colors and lights are at their best. Well done!

You're right, water is a real treasure. I love your note!! It's great to hear that your son is your cycling companion; this 'return to the homeland' story is also very interesing.

As to the photo, I like the framing but I think you're over-sharpening the light pixels. There is a very simple way to sharpen the light and dark pixels individually; it used to be called 'Lukos sharpening technique.' Look here.

I often do a short-cut version and just sharpen the dark pixels. After using the unsharp mask (effect 150 radius 0.3, threshold 0); go to edit/fade USM, select darken from the blend mode drop down menu, for darken, leave the slider at 100%.

Here is another sharpening technique that I haven't used. I think people mostly use smart sharpen now.

An interesting history in your note to complement perfectly this image.
The good management of the light and of the shades offers us a brilliant scene and with a good contrast, while the water creates a very refreshing atmosphere.

Hello Sergiy,

An estival luminosity which again makes good taking into account the gloomy weather currently on Versailles… Here one would believe oneself on the southern part of France, on the side of Monaco for example !!! Seen under this angle we do not have the impression that the castle is in ruin. Pleasant composition with this refreshing water fall. The natural colors are beautiful. A really fine and well-composed picture. The lighting was obviously very strong but the picture is very fresh and crisp. The light management was very good and you have a good balance between the shaded and sunlit parts. TFS and have a nice evening!

Hello Sergiy,
This treasure is really situated in a very dangerous cliff. At least it looks kind of dangerous, depending on the stability of the soil and geology. With the water running down it seems the soil will be eroded one day, and the house would slide down the cliff.
But I guess it’s been there for a long times so it should be fine. Congratulations on your finding. Not the best POV but I’m sure you did your best the frame is kind of tight on the top, maybe a little more sky would help. Good quality photo regardless. Thanks

Very romantic shot, where the small creek resp. waterfall boosts DOF that you are looking up the building on top of the hill. Fine green hues vs. the blue of the sky. Excellent light management as well. Well done.
