The Beauty of Naked Trees, a photo from Devon, England

This is a shot that I took almost exactly a year ago early one morning whilst the mist still lay in the valley below,at the time I was rather taken by the lovely shapes of the naked trees against the distant woodlands.

Hello Les,

Like yourself, I think trees are one of the most wonderful features of our landscapes and you have captured these beautiful specimens perfectly (two years ago actually - doesn't time fly?) against a lovely soft background of hills and mist.

Black and white works well with this picture and the contrasts, the light and the details and sharpness are excellent.

Classic landscape composition. Lovely tones managed, and of course the strong thirds placement of the main group of trees is just right. The subtle diagonal of the hillside beyond holds our eyes within the frame. Good work.

A seductive and well presented nature composition. The leafless trees really do have a charm all of their own. I like the misty atmosphere and the graphism offered by the tree line in the background. Good choice of black and white to enhance the atmosphere.

a beautifully simple and attractive B&W study that is both artistic and compelling. A really tranquil atmosphere and I love the tree shapes they always look so wonderful just before Spring really gets going. Not sure if it will ever start this year!

This is a fine composition where the heavy mist provides a good background to the beautiful trees. It's a very carefully processed photo with a fine greyscale.

You certainly recognise a good subject for b/w. The misty BG provides a lot of atmosphere and an excellent backdrop for the trees.
