Hello Trevor,
Having read your note, I now realise! At first I thought the surfers were monumental sculptures in the style of Anthony Gormley! They certainly make a fine composition juxtaposed against the ruined pier. The graphical lines are emphasised by the use of black and white, which was an excellent choice of medium. The image has good range of tones and very good sharpness. Thanks for sharing.

know this old wreck so well, and I have to say it is the subject of so many images, that originality is hard to find, but this is a Christmas Cracker. Love it. We are expecting a huge storm here today so once again this old lady will be taking another battering.

Hello Trevor,

Brian (timecapturer) has shot this ghostly pier a few times but I don't ever remember him posting stand-up paddle surfers so, in that respect, this is a first. The sea does look very calm. Is that essential for this sport?
The juxtaposition of the surfers and pier gives us a really good understanding of the scale, whilst the features are well composed.

this is lovely choice for the mono treatment accentuating as it does the graphic features of the burnt out pier and the isolated figures of the surfers.
Lovely tones and contrast.
Impressive photography this.

Hello Trevor,
I never heard of SUP before, and yet I use Google every day :-). This is a terrific picture but those "suppers" remind me more of some exotic paddlers in Asia or West Africa. There would never be an ex-pier like this in any of those places, though. You made a fine conversion to B&W with the sihouettes of the paddlers and the intricate construction of the pier having a superb graphical beauty.

I love the choice of monochrome for this shot. I guess the weather conditions were bland, dull, overcast, so b/w is often the best way to go. That poor old pier! My daughter lives in Brighton, so I see this sad sight quite often. But it makes a stonking composition, balanced by those paddlers. Happy New Year.
