Photographer's Note
Hello Everyone,
It is almost time for the 'Big Bird Watch' in the U.K., where people watch their gardens, or some similar place, for one hour and record the number of birds that they see.
It is something that has been happening for many years and helps to show trends in bird numbers, which birds are maintaining their numbers, which are in decline and which may be increasing.
There has been a serious decline in many species!
This is a photograph of my favourite, cheeky little bird, the robin. This one looks particularly plump and full of character.
Robins do not migrate from the U.K. in winter so are ever present in winter gardens.
They are very territorial and can be heard singing long
before other garden birds begin marking their territory.
The males and females look the same so it is difficult to firmly establish which one is doing the singing.
I think during the lockdown periods, bird watching has become very important to the wellbeing of many people.
Keep safe, Bev :-)

Hi Bev
This is certainly a very cheeky looking chappy and has a very questioning look on its face. Very well photographed.
We recently bought a squirrel proof feeder which the robin apprecites and can eat his fill and it foxes the squirrel.

Hello Bev,
I am glad to see you back. I hope you haven't been ill.
This is a very pretty photo, so very sharp and taken from such a good and close angle. The bird seems to be watching you, seemingly not very afraid. There is an orange leaf in the blurred background that matches the chest and face of the bird perfectly.
If I would take part in the Swedish "bird counting" from my windows there would be a heavy dominance of magpies and crows.
Best regards,
Gert

Mrs. Robinson's Robin's...
I think it was wondering why you taken her on camera, her eyes fixed at you.
A bird specie that is beautiful and has charming tweets, Beverley.
Good evening,

Hi Bev
Cure little robin! I like the way he or she is looking at the camera, as if it was posing. I often see one in my garden too, it comes to eat, bathe and watch me do garden work.
I'm pleased to say that I've signed up for this year's Big Bird Watch and am looking forward to it.
Best wishes
Kasia

Hello Beverley,
After your year-end holiday you are back and yes, with a robin!
What a charming sweet looking little ball.
Excellently sharp with the twigs around it a bit blurry.
I never get to see this bird from my apartment on the third floor. I do see tits, forest pigeons and sometimes a magpie.
The bird that is declining sharply in Belgium is the sparrow. When I was a kid, that was the most common bird.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Bev,the robin is a symbol of winter birdwatching and is very common in my country too, and it's always nice too because remember me the legend about its red part of plumage, good capture considering the distance and the very bad light. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hi Bev,
A good portrait of this robin. Strong eye contact and off centre framing works well. A bit surprising time for Big Bird Watch, I would assume many species migrate away from U.K. for winter.

I have nice images of this bird, typical of your island. here we are watching many different wild birds coming of my region, I don't know why, maybe because my region is becoming more empty in the rural zone.
take care

Hi Bev
great to see you again Bev. hope all is well in your neck of the woods. this guy is looking very heavy haha...maybe its the Covid effect, putting on weight :) when you really look at the scene, its amazing how mother nature works, the bird has feathers the same color as the tree. see you around
cheers

Hello Bev, I was wondering and worrying about your absence. I am glad that all is OK. This robin is really plump and cheeky. I also observe the birds in my garden, but they are migratory. I see great tits looking for food, sometimes jays, jackdaws.
Fantastic portrait of the little fellow.
Happy 2022! Best regards MAlgo

Hello Beverley, a lovely shot of the rather round robin; I guess that the weather was cool.
A nice blurred background which echoes the colours of the robin.
Unfortunately we have gulls that seem to frequent our roof/chimney stack!
Jackdaws and rooks are quite frequent visitors too.
Happy New Year
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Bev,
A nice photo of the robin looking straight at you. Little birds move so quickly it can be difficult to get a decent photo of one, so well done. It certainly looks well fed. In my yard I have counted 41 different bird species, including 10 species of parrot. But only a handful are daily visitors, and some that used to be common are rare now - a scenario that's too true everywhere.

Hi Bev.
Very interesting note about this interaction between people and birds, it is something very beautiful.
I love this pretty robin, which seems to be looking at you attentively while you took the photo, it looks like a little ball of feathers, it is beautiful with those pretty colors.
A fantastic photo, with beautiful natural colors, very good lighting and excellent sharpness.
Very well done. I love it.
Enjoy the weekend.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hi Bev,
On my screen this lacks a bit of a sharpness, but maybe you meant it to be a bit dreamy. Robins are certainly one of my favourite birds, to be honest I don't recall ever seeing them in Poland but maybe because I never got interested in birdwatching before coming to the UK.
Very nice portrait,
M

Hello beverly,
European robins are cuter than American ones. This one is adorable.
