Photographer's Note

This sculpture, which reminds me of the Soviet Socialist Realist style, is part of a memorial to William Hesketh. He was the founder of Lever Brothers soap manufacturers, and like many 19th Century industrialists he believed that taking care of his workers would make them happier and more productive. To this end he built the village of Port Sunlight, a clean, airy and healthy place. The town boasts high quality housing, a community theatre, and an art gallery. Even today this remains an enviable place to live.
