Photographer's Note
Took a trip to Holy Island at the new year and was facinated by these sheds made out of upturned boats on the shore. I had to go back 3 times waiting for the sky to do something. Lindisfarne Castle is in the background.
I've converted to film and scanner as the quality is better so this was shot on Fuji Velvia using a 2 stop soft grad, scanned on a coolscan V ED and in photoshop I cropped, and tightened the curve to give it a bit more punch.

Hello Richard,
You have chosen a creative POV for the castle.Tweaking curves has had the desired effect as you have created an appropriate atmosphere for this place. These boat sheds are fascinating. Northumbrian children's author Robert Westall incorporated them in his fiction book The Machine Gunners.

Hi Richard,
This is a really nice shot from a really interesting point of view, and the B&W turns it into a really dramatic shot. I'm impressed by the quality of your scan - I wouldn't have known if you hadn't said.
Cheers

Excellent shot Richard.
I'd heard that these famous boat sheds had burned down, so I'm glad to see that I was misinformed.
Love the tonality in this - superb work.
Cheers,

excellent pre3sentation here - obviously a subject is most fascinating but the way you prepared this photo for publication (tones, contrast, etc.) is the indication of the top photo skills and experience...
love this "unusual" (as far as most of other works on TE about the UK is concerned) work....
best,
j.

Hi Richard.
Once in a while a shoot pops out at me and grabs my interest; this is definetivly one of those shoots;) The exquisite detail you've captured in the sheed/boat is facinating, only toped by the exposure of the afore-mentioned. The backdrop really paints a great mood. It seems your wait was well worth it. The only remark is a slight halo on the top of the shed/boat. I'm not sure if this from your masking while editing or if it's natural.
In a way it doesn't matter because this is a great shot, highly recomended and a clear candidate for shot of the month;)

Hi Richard,
Nice set of BW photos... This scene is interesting, because of the sky, getting darker on the left, and brighter on the right.
Nice sharpeness on the house. Sweet.
Cheers,
Loïc
