orange-tip-butterfly, a photo from Nottinghamshire, England

Well this the 1st one out the camera since I got it back from Sony the lens having fallen apart in my hands ( ooops), my goodness have I missed it and a lot of potential pictures too.
This male orange tip butterfly (Anthocharis cardamines), (the female has white with black tiped wings).He`s only got 18 days to find a mate , there is only one batch of catapillars a year and they produce a sweet liquid that ants go potty for. they eat mainly smaler members of the cabage family such as wild turnip and mustard.
this one was in one of the tunnels and needed lifting out,so camera in hand persuaded it to sit on finger a couple of quick pics for the record and slowly carry outside and hope to get a better background but it saw the sky and flitted so no better picture.

saturation +8 Contrast +2
Burntool to Antenn'a
USM 130% X 1.9 px radius X threshold 1
crop to 800 X 800 pixels at 72dpi
use save to web and save as close to 200k limit as possible (195k)

Good shot! I like your crop, and you've captured some impressive detail here - I really like the patterns on his compound eye! I saw one of these today too, although I nearly ran over mine... You've captured plenty of detail here, but I think I'd have sharpened it a little differently - you've accentuated the noise in the background a bit too much for my taste. Would you mind emailing me this crop as a TIFF, or the original file and then perhaps I could do a Workshop? Anyway, well captured, as usual :-D

Wow, what an fantastic macro. What an amazing little fellow. The details are great, very nice colors. His wings look like a moth-eaten cabbage leaf, which is probably his camouflage?

This is a superb close up ! The colours and the details shown in fantastic way.
A bit noisy, is it because sharpening process or compression ? lately I've seen a lot of people use neatimage to decrease the noise(I never used one, but from what i saw, i think its good.)

A very nice photograph of a beautiful butterfly, but my advice is if you're going to take photos that include your finger again, it would be easier to view if you trimmed your fingernail and cleaned beneath it before you shoot! The alternative would be to use your Photoshop skills to get rid of the grime.
