Swing Bridge to Newcastle, a photo from Tyne and Wear, England

Photographer's Note

As you could guess from my previous upload, recently I had another blue hour walk in Newcastle upon Tyne. My target was the area around the Swing Bridge. If you look at the theme I created (right panel below the photo) you will find there my other photos of bridges in Newcastle.

As you may remember, Newcastle upon Tyne is located north of the River Tyne while the town south of the river is called Gateshead. So technically taking this photo I am standing in Gateshead and photographing Newcastle.

If you are about to say that I should have moved left or right, I will answer straight away that I didn’t have any flexibility at all, that was the only option from this spot. Anyway, I liked having in the frame the castle from which the name New-castle came from (top left). Next to the new castle (right from it) you can also see an ornamental tower which marks the Newcastle Cathedral. The industrial structure at the bottom left is the Swing Bridge. The tele lens has squeezed the perspective in a funny way and so all the elements seem to be merged together and it is hard to tell the sizes and distances. Not only that but also the river got somehow hidden here. You can see its velvet surface between wooden piers which actually go in parallel to the river flow, but it is relatively squeezed so no one would guess that there is a sizable river spanned with the Swing Bridge. As funny as this effect is -sometimes I like such busy and disorientating compositions.

Hello Mariusz,
A fantastic photo of Newcastle. There is a lot to see and the illuminations are fantastic and the colours really very appealing. Terrific sharpness as well. The bridge leads the eye so nicely to the other side and particularly to the castle and the church, which dominate the skyline.

Hello Mariusz,

This is a beautiful composition of swing bridge and adjacent, city features all combined in this sweet photograph. I love how one feature automatically leads to the next and all have this warm, amber colouration.
You have shown the castle which features in 'Newcastle' and the tower of the cathedral, all neatly exhibited against the skyline.
I like it very much.
My only negative would be that it is a little unsharp - just a little!

a very nice view of this part of the town I knew. the old (new) castle is perfectly visible up there. nice busy space in the lower part and excellent details in each corner.

Spectacular nocturnal composition, with that reddish tint of lighting that contrasts with the still blue of the sky, ideal grouping of the bridge, the castle and the tower of the cathedral, all the most representative gathered in this setting.
