Photographer's Note
Hello Everyone,
This is part of Tynemouth Priory. It is now ruined and stands on the cliffs above Tynemouth.
My photograph actually shows the gatehouse, as seen through one of the ruined arches of the priory. It may seem strange that a religious building has a gate house but this priory was situated in quite a precarious location.
It was threatened by the Scots and by the Vikings who saw it as an opportunity to gain great wealth.
Despite the precautions of a walled exterior and a substantial gatehouse, the Vikings still managed to sack the priory!
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Bev,
Impressive gatehouse. Well framed looking through the archway. I like the warm tones and the excellent detail to be observed in the old stones.

Hi Bev,
A fine picture with a pleasant depth. The gate also acts as a frame for the view of the parts further away. Interesting note, maybe my forefathers were here too...
Kind regards

Hi Bev,
Nicely framed through this attractive, intricate and sturdy arch. Te soft blue ofthe sky looks great, as do the rich greens in comparison to the grey stone. I am used to seeing well defended religious buildings, here in Ireland they were also und attack for centuries! Lovey capture of this place, the kind of place I love to visit and shoot.
Best wishes

Ciao Bev
bella composizione, l'arco è una perfetta cornice per l'architettura dello sfondo.
Ottima la nitidezza, la luce non era molto bella, ma sei riuscita ad ottenere un ottimo risultato.

Howdy Bev,
Appealing view of the gothic Tynemouth Priory ruins through the block arch way. Apparently a common design in the middle ages was for defense, including castles and churches, etc.
And then there was Henry VIII who ransacked the Catholic monasteries...
But I will take partial blame for bad behavior, being part Swede (Viking heritage)
Thanks for sharing,
Cheers,
Ray

Bev, arches used as frames are always so challenging, inviting and intriguing...and it makes a composition much more beautiful by giving depth.
a very beautiful view to the historic ruins very well composed and presented!!
kind regards,
Eleni

Hi Bev
The long vertical shot appealed to me at the first look. Then the ruins and the somewhat ill-kept grass struck my eye.
I love the way you have created a fine sense of geometry by giving the arch that much of an importance.

Hi Bev,
I love this view of the priory and your interesting note about its preparations to fend off viking raids. Very topical for me. I have been watching "The Vikings" now showing on one of our TV channels in Australia. The show highlights the viking raids on Northumbria and Wessex.
Well-composed using the archway as a frame.

Trevor

Hello Beverley,
classic idea of using the door as a natural frame for the picture-you did very good job handling the light in superb way to achieve perfectly detailed FG and BG at the same time. Good DOF and pretty natural colors.
Very good sharpness.
Thanks for sharing and all the best

Hello Bev
Little is left of the priory as we see and also read from your notes...what I like in this picture is the way you framed it with the arched gate. We also see a hint of sun on the fresh green grass closer to the priory, which also looks attractive. Well done!
Best Regards

Hi Bev,
This is a great shot, I like the use of the arch as a frame for the scene. The lighting is great with nice color and sharpness. The dark sky contrasts the nicely lit foreground.

Good morning Beverly,
A view of the inner yard of the priority and the ruins around, well taken through the arch.
Not an easy task, but still a distinct depth and clarity.
Have a nice day,
Ike
** Apparently we all experience difficulties from time to time on the site - but do not dispare... it get better, later.
