St John's Point., a photo from Down, Northern Ireland

Photographer's Note

Hi Folks,

Today's photo is an effect of my recent trip with "mkamionka" to Northern Ireland. The lighthouse you can see is named: St Johns Point Lighthouse, it is located not far from Killough in Co Down.

The lighthouse was built in 1884, under the direction of George Halpin. Originally 62ft high, raised to 120ft in 1893. Powered by whale oil, coal, gas and from 1981 the Lighthouse was automated. The tower was painted white with black bands originally, however in 1954 the tower was repainted in its present distinctive black / yellow colour scheme.

I like this one a lot, not sure what you think.

Hello Dariusz,

Excellent wideangle shot of the rocks and clouds! Good composition and placement of the lighthouse. Perfect exposure. A small question: what focal length is this?

Superb composition. Great saturated color of the tower. Good to see the textures of the rocks. I specially like the low POV and the reflection on the water. A brilliant sky what is visible.

często jeździcie gdzieś z Mariuszem. ciekawy kadr z tą pasiastą latarnią, jak pszczółka Maja, częściowo odbitą w kałuzy. Ja bardzo lubię takie omszałe kamienie. i jaka pogoda wam sie ekstra trafiła!

Czesc Darek,
wow, super fajna kompozycja. Bardzo mi sie podoba z tej strony. Nie wiem jak moglem nie obejsc jej calej dokola.
Bardzo przyjemnie ociepliles kolory -robi wrazenie jakby to byl wakacyjny letni dzien w Portugalii :)
Swietnie dopracowana kaluza, bardzo udane niebo. Takie niebo wole jednak bardziej od tego ktore mielismy w niedziele.
Dodatkowy bonus to oczywiscie odbicie. Bardzo naturalna obrobka,

yes...this is looking very familiar to me! thanks to mkamionka.
its great that the lighthouse is positioned directly infront of the clouds to enhance the striped colours.
also love the craggy rocks, and water reflections.
of course it contains your classic sharpness and clarity!

Hi Darek,

the reflection here makes the difference!
It create an almost symmetrical composition which doubles the pleasure for this most lovely sky.
The tall shape of the lighthouse is a wonderful eyecatcher which stands out so well from the clouds and there is a fine variety of strong and appealing colours which makes the image very alive and joyful.
The excellent quality of the photo allows one to appreciate every single interesting detail. A most beautiful scenery captured in a masterful way.

Hi Dariusz,
indeed I do like it. The reflection in the water is a definite plus and the lighthouse stands out pretty well against those clouds. There also seem to be a lighter PP here, which I like. it looks more natural to me. As far as composition is concerned, I think I might have put the lighthouse a little more off-center but that's my personal taste...

I loved this place when I've been there last year. But the weather was too sunny to have really nice pictures such as this one ! Nice reflections and wonderful sky. Sharpness is excellent too.

Tu as trouvé le bon POV pour mettre en valeur ce coin de nature dominé par le phare. La bonne idée c'est l'eau du premier plan dans laquelle se reflètent le phare et le ciel.

Je me souviens que Mkamionka avait pris cette endroit de nuit avec des teintes de bleu superbe,mais je dois dire que de jour l'endroit est tout aussi sublime,le reflet dans la flaque est astucieux et est les couleurs du phare sont extra,bravo.

Mam wra¿enie, ¿e ju¿ gdzie¶ i kiedy¶ widzia³em ten motyw. Oczywi¶cie mogê siê myliæ, ale tekie mam wra¿enie. £adny kadr w ciekawej kolorystyce g³ównie na pierwszym planie. Takich kolorów w zasadzie w Polsce siê nie spotyka - no mo¿e gdzie¶ w górach... Dobrze, ¿e kadr nie jest centralny. Niski POV pasuje tutaj znakomicie podobnie jak dobór krótkiej ogniskowej. Robisz sporo zdjêæ z niskim POV. Czy stosujesz w tym celu (dla u³atwienia pracy) celownik k±towy? Praca ladna, fascynyj±ca, ¶wietnie skomponowaqna i bardzo dobrze wykonana - tak¿e dla edycji w necie.
