Photographer's Note

Moonrise over Loch Scridain, Isle of Mull.

Driving along the narrow roads of Mull in the dark, trying to avoid the sleeping sheep and cows who, attracted by the lingering warmth of the tarmac, choose to make their beds right in the middle of the road, we descended the hill and came across this view over Loch Scridain, lit by the rising moon.
"Shit, no tripod" I remembered - we'd been on a boat all day so I hadn't brought it. Never mind, the moon was quite bright so I thought I'd have a go anyway. Even so, with a 50mm lens at f/1.8 I was still restricted to a shutter speed of 1/15th second - not really a problem (I've got steady hands), but I'd have preferred to have used a smaller aperture to increase the depth of field. As you can see, the foreground is a bit soft.
