Photographer's Note
Please open both photos in new tabs for the better versions.
We were in Skye in September, not the main wildflower season, but along the road to Elgol there were large patches of wildflowers. They are, I guess, some sort of heather.
Here are 2 photos of them - the main one being on a rocky slope and the WS showing a wider expanse of flowers.

Hello Ian, Wonderful both pictures, especially when we see them in the large format. I think it is common heather - calluna vulgaris.
Heather flowers commonly mean good luck, admiration, and protection. Queen Victoria popularized the meaning of heather as good luck in England because of her appreciation for Scottish lore and traditions

Hello Ian,
Two quite beautiful photos. I may be slightly in favour of the wider view and more diverse vegetation in the WS, but this is also a very nice composition of purple and green on both sides of the grey rocks. In both cases exposure and sharpness are as perfect as ever.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Ian,
Yes, this is heather, a flower for which Scotland is famous.
It looks stunning as it covers the rocky outcrops in your main posting whist the w/s looks equally stunning, both for its subject and the bright, sunny Scottish day!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Ian,
The flowers are impressive. The point of view is showing the details of the rocks and of the wild flowers. The light is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.

Hi Ian,
I live at the North York Moors National Park which is supposedly one of the largest patches of heather around the world and somehoe since 10 years I always manage to miss the full bloom of it. This looks quite pretty here.
The purple color adds an unexpected touch to the natural scenery,
M

Hello Ian
Magenta and green are complementary colors, so that's why this vegetal mix is so attractive and stunning, for growing in hospitable environment!
A lovely piece of Scotland!
I thank you for all your comments on my pictures all along the last year and I wish you all the best.
I now quit TE forever. God bless.
