Photographer's Note
RESPECT FOR THE COUNTRYSIDE?
Almost all of us enjoy the countryside, whether for walking, running, cycling, climbing or simply relaxing and enjoying the fine weather, the scenery or the fresh air and the sounds of bird song. But unfortunately there appears to be a group of people who have no respect for the countryside and do not believe that anyone else should be able to enjoy it.
Here are three snapshots of rather disgusting scenes I came across a few months ago when out walking with friends around the Motherwell area of central Scotland:
The top picture of a pile of discarded beer bottles and cans was taken at a nature reserve on the banks of the River Clyde;
The middle photo was taken in woodland near Strathclyde Park where a car, presumably stolen, had previously been dumped and set on fire and later daubed with paint;
And, worst of all, the bottom photo was taken from a bridge over a small river on the outskirts of Motherwell. You could actually smell the stench of the river long before reaching the bridge and the river was almost completely choked with discarded junk including car parts, wheels, bottles, cans, plastics and rotting wood.
Maybe one day we shall find a cure for those people who have no respect either for Nature or other human beings.

Hi John
Trashing the country side is common in many countries, although I haven't seen it as bad in the UK and Australia.
A pity that some people don't give a ****. A good informative trio.
cheers

Hello dear John, What a disgusting view in these photos. I can't understand the people who do not respect nature. Excellent but sad picture. Unfortunately, similar views one can see also in Poland.
Best regards MAlgo

Hello John,
Three absolutely disgusting photos making a good but different contribution to TE. These very sad views are unfortunately not restricted to the Motherwell area but typical of most countries. It's beyond my understanding how normal, sane people can cause such damage to nature. Even worse, but less easily seen, is the dumping of poisonous waste from industries that is still going on in many places despite usually strict laws.
Some photos on TE cheer me up, but these made me rather sad.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello John,
Three excellent photographs that you collected on your walk. The details are crisp and the colours accurate.
Though the photographs are of high quality, their subject definitely isn't!
There really is no excuse for people to leave litter, like this. Care for the planet and sustainability are topics covered in all schools. Sadly, some people love to prove that they can break rules, just because they can, or to show their indifference to authority, in view of pals!
The results are plain to see but they cause threats to wildlife as well as polluting their own environment!
I am surprised that there is no action group in Motherwell to try to deal with this problem. In our area, besides the Council having clear-up days, there are voluntary groups which litter pick weekly. There are also posters about dropping litter, showing people's faces, with emphasis on the eyes, as if watching the miscreants!
If there is one thing that is sure to get me angry, it is seeing litter! Len says it is only a matter of time before I get punched as, if I see someone drop litter, I pick it up and return it to them!
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hello John,
An original choice of subject for these photos and the three pictures show a sad side of humanity and one that is pretty hard to understand. Don't people who just throw away their junk wherever they please notice the ugliness of it? Are they never annoyed when they see a place full of trash, especially in the countryside? I fully understand your frustration when seeing these disgusting areas in a forest or near a river.

Hello John,
Everyday see I the same images also in Belgium, during my biketrip.
Notwithstanding fairly heavy fines for illegal dumping.
Perfect compilationof three pictures.
Nice composition, perfectly presentation.
A dream image, but negative, TFS.
Best regards,
John.

Hello John, three excellent very sharp pictures which deliver a strong message.
I do not understand how some people can do this and not see how ugly and dangerous it is.
It is sheer ignorance!,
Removing the wrecked car will mean professionals to see to it, costing an expense to the council. The other rubbish could be removed by volunteers, but at the end of the day, it shouldn’t need doing in the first place.
They have certainly stirred up feelings amongst TE members.
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards, Jean.

Sorry John
No cure for idiots that kill deface mother earth. Just as bad her in the states. A good collection of proof. Just need a few volunteers to help clean up. Here we cannot count on the state to help. shame. many could use the work.

Hello John,
The car in the middle photo could still be an art piece but exhibited in the wrong place.
The other two are sad scenes as we also often encounter here in the neighbourhood.
Sometimes even near an empty waste container.
Instead of an enlarged version this should end up in the garbage bin, but photo-technically they are fine photos and it is good that you draw attention to them in this way.
Excellent presentation
Have a nice day, groet Rob

Hi John
Firstly, thank you for your recent critiques, I worried that you might have left TE (put off by the frequent requests to prove you were not a robot...) so glad to hear from you. I'm reading in the news that Scotland is still pretty much in a lockdown, I wonder when you will be able to resume your Wednesday walks! Especially that I'm preparing for my second international flight since the pandemic started.
It's unfortunate that some of the landscapes on your walks look exactly like this... This is just terrible, we have so much rubbish being dumped in my local park. You see wildlife searching through piles of food packaging and snacking on picnic leftovers.
Great idea to make it a triptych, I just wish you could post it somewhere where it would educate some of that people who do this (and their parents).
Have a nice Sunday
Kasia
