Photographer's Note

This picture shows a tattoo parlour in a street in Plymouth called Union street. Union street these days is not what it was twenty or more years ago, fortunately.
Then it was filled with pubs and clubs from one end to the other, and as a sailor on a run ashore from a ship that had long been at sea, it was a boast that you could have a drink in every establishment along its entire length and still be standing at the end.
I like the lady stood in the doorway, when I took the picture I did not notice her only afterwards did she appear. I would love it if she had drawn on her cigarette and given a red glow just as I pressed the shutter. But sadly not.
