Photographer's Note

I claim to be a supporter of black and white photography, but I realise I haven't posted a monochrome for quite some time. So this redresses the balance a little I hope.

Despite having a rare glimpse of the sun on this afternoon, I felt that the image worked better without colour. Many (most?) will disagree.

On the skyline is Lindisfarne Castle, re-vamped as a summer residence by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1901 when it became the property of Edward Hudson, a publishing magnate and the owner of Country Life magazine.

The harbour itself is bleakly beautiful, but as a sailor myself, I'm not sure I'd want to keep a boat here: it's pretty exposed to any weather from the south-east.

See a larger version here.
