Photographer's Note
Hello Everyone,
Just a little detour from my local photographs to share this lovely, thatched cottage, which we saw in Milton.
I think these cottages are part of the distinctive timber framed houses, with rendered walls and thatched roofs, which originated in the 16th century,
The history of Milton goes back much earlier than this. There is evidence of Anglo-Saxon presence for 500 years before the Norman Conquest in 1066.
The Anglo-Saxons also gave Milton its first name of ‘Middeltun’ – half way between two other local settlements, perhaps Waterbeach and Cambridge.
Milton was primarily a farming community, farming land owned by the manor, the church (glebe land) and later, additionally by Cambridge colleges. The people lived in humble cottages built of timber with thatched roofs.
Also, during the early part of this period, the Normans gave Milton the name of Middeltone, which later became Middleton and finally Milton after the reign of Edward III.
I hope you enjoyed this little journey through Milton's history, Bev :-)

Hello Bev,
A very quiet moment to make this nice picture of this house.
An excellent detailed picture with the reed roof.
Reed roof with a thickness of 25 à30 cm are the most and best isolation in the world, but only, after two a three year old.
This are real dream houses!
Nice sharp and clear photographed.
Very well done, TFS.
Kindest regards,
John.

Hello Bev,
This building is so remarkably pretty and clearly very well maintained that it should be listed at a suitable level. It looks like a cultural heritage to me. You didn't make any research of its history?
The dull sky doesn't harm the colours or light at all. It's a very pleasant and well exposed photo. I might have cropped a narrow slice on the right side, where we see a glimpse of a car, and while I was at it I would probably have got rid of that garbage bin (?) to the left as well. ;-)
Kind regards,
Gert

Good evening Beverley,
Amazing work upon the roof of the old mansion. It must keep warmth inside on cold nights, I assume. Ancient wisdom I call this. Well chosen the corner POV, enable part of the charming surrounding.
My best regards,

Hello Beverley,
Such a wonderful photo of this large cottage. It looks so wonderful and well-maintained with its white walls and thatched roof. Those triangles over the window at the first floor stand out nicely as well. The green trees make a good background.

Hi Bev,truly stunning this cottage, perfectly preserved, with its thatched roof which requires a lot of maintenance but which has a unique visual effect. Excellent catch and interesting notes of this ancient and millenary agricultural village. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hi Bev,
The edges and the trees are frmaing well the cottage. The point of view is showing the details of the cottage. The cloudy sky is giving a good contrast to the colors of the picture. Have a nice day.

Hi Bev
The art of thatching must be alive and well around there to keep that roof so well maintained. A good POV at an angle for this photo.
cheers

Hello Bev,
The thatched roof of this row of terrace houses resembles the similar style I saw here and there in Romania. Good sharpness and angled pov. Tfs!

Hi Bev,
England has lots of historic buildings. But the style of this one is pretty different. Steep straw roof is special. And white walls are certainly more to my taste than usual brown brick ones.

Hello Beverley,
A very charming cottage with the kind of roof I don't often see in my own country.
Nice how the windows of the first floor are integrated into the thatched roof.
The house looks very neat and well maintained.

Hi Bev.
This typical and surely very old house is a magnificent opportunity to admire this type of construction, where what surprises us the most is its green roof, the second floor with the sloping roofs must be very curious inside and I suppose it is They would rather use as a warehouse for products and storage rooms.
Good perspective of the image, very pleasing to the eye.
Colorful, sharpness and luminosity are managed effectively.
Very good composition, magnificent presentation.
Have a good weekend.
Warm greetings.
Luis.

Hello Bev,
This home looks so typically English to me. :-) I can imagine the beams on the interior, and the old world charm. Maybe the interior is more modern than the exterior... I don't mind the gray sky; the small flower pots add a nice pop of color. Take care!

Hello Beverly,
I love those thatched roofs, what a pretty building. I wonder how difficult it is to keep those thatched roofs in good shape.
