Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
My photograph this morning shows a part of Looe Harbour.
Looe is a very pretty little village, with houses built up either side of the steep harbour sides.
In the 19th Century, Looe was not only a thriving fishing port but had become a major Cornish trading Harbour.
The problem was, there were two towns, East Looe and West Looe, facing each other across the estuary. The mayors of each trying to improve their respective harbour sides with slipways, jetties and new quay walls. However, these developments altered the flow of the river and during bad weather conditions, vessels moored either side of the harbour were damaged.
Eventually an act was passed which effectively took the management of Looe Harbour out of the hands of the squabbling mayors of East Looe and West Looe.
Revenue for the upkeep of the Harbour was collected through the levy of “harbour dues”, rental of harbour side properties and dues levied on fish landings. [These methods of income are current as of this present day]. Under the new management regime, the harbour prospered and in 1858 a new Bridge was built joining the two Looes - LOOE Harbour.com
Thank you for your interest, Bev :-)

Ciao Bev,a beautiful story of tribal fights between mayors, and in the end between the two quarrels the third enjoys, as they say in Italy..ahhaa..a very rich composition, almost everything has remained intact over the years and the port still retains its old charm, excellent and very rich catch. Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hello Bev,
When I read your note I couldn't help wondering if the mayors belonged to the Montague and Capulet families. Only the damages could make them regret their mistakes and make peace through a bridge. ;-)
This is not like Verona, but it's a very nice view of the buildings climbing the green hillside. The boats are rather cute and seem much more at home here than a big yacht would have done. The "fence" (?) provided you with a good foreground.
Thank you for your kind comments on my photo. You exactly described my reasons for taking it.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Bev
Cornwall is a beautiful part of England & one I have had my eye on for a while, especially Lundi Island. The only down side is that prices of accommodation are ridiculously high, even more so than elite areas of London! Nice framing, colour and sharpness. Tfs!

Ohh... I could spend hours on such a place, Beverley, how beautiful and the colors stand out under the gray sky aloft.
Not long ago saw a documentary about Cornwall coatal town and villages, there must be a time in future with no COVID that i will be there...
Good afternoon,

Hi Bev,
The cmposition is well divided, the sky, the city and the harbour. The point of view is showing the details of the buildings and of the boats. The light is giving good colors rendering. Have a nice day.

Hello Beverley,
I am pretty sure I must have visited this town as well many years ago. It is a lovely view across the water. The houses look charming with lots of light blue colours. Also the red, blue and red boats are a good addition.

Hello Beverley,
I remember your previous photos of Looe.
Such a very picturesque small town will stay in my memory.
I also remember you explained that you prefer to have an element in the foreground of your photos. The two wooden posts are in the right place here and also give a lot of depth to the photo.
Most of the houses have white facades and a grey roof while the boats add some extra colours. I see that the church isn't located here on the highest spot (which is often the case in some countries).
Beautiful composition, clear and sharp presentation.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Bev,
There are many such harbourside towns in Britain. Steep hill with old houses is a great looking background. Is this shot from the other side or just from a longer jetty?

Hello Beverley, of course I recognised your shot of Looe even in the thumbnails. It is a very photogenic place.
I like this particular point of view where you have used the railings and wooden posts to ground us, as well as providing leading lines to the view across the water.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Bev,
I love places like this! Busy little harbours! In spite of the cloudy weather the outcome is so colorful and eye catching.
Nice point of view with the sight across the water to the promenade.
I see you have symmetrically placed the wooden poles.
Beautiful work,
M

Hi Bev.
What a charming place, the port looks very quiet with those small boats, the steep terrain and the houses ascending the slope are very attractive, the abundant trees make the image more attractive.
Very beautiful coloring, in some very attractive tones.
Optimal brightness management and superb sharpness.
Very well done. My congratulations.
All the best and have a good start to the week.
Luis.

Hello Beverly,
It is a nice view of the harbor with the colorful boats. I am glad someone had the sense to take over and coordinate the harbor(s).
Regards,
MT
