Big Ben Unwrapped
This is of course Big Ben in London, or officially Elizabeth Tower, the clock tower of the Houses of Parliament. Renovation works have been in progress for several years now, during which the tower was completely wrapped in scaffolding for quite a while, but they are almost finished now and the tower can be admired in all its splendour again. The two lampposts in the foreground are still wrapped up though, they are a gift in celebration of Queen Elizabeth’s platinum jubilee and will be unveiled later this year.
I was standing in front of Westminster Hall, the oldest part of the Houses of Parliament, when I took this photo, just before we would go in and get a guided tour through the building (during which it was not allowed to take any pictures unfortunately).

Hej Lars,
Gert

Hi Lars, the first picture of Big Ben on this site after the cleaning and refurbishment work, and it really is a splendor, I saw it 31 years ago and it was quite dirty, it is really a pleasure to see it so bright. Excellent capture with the still wrapped street lamps that we will see later. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Pozdrav.
Lep pogled, interesantan tekst ...
Lepo mesto i stara arhitektura, dobro pokazano sa lepim bojama, kontratsom i uhvacenim trenutkom sa oblacima koji dolaze i najavljuju poromenu vremena.
Lep Big Ben.
Dobar rad, lepa fotografija.
Dobar tekst o upotrebljenoj tehnici i elementima snimka.
Zelim vam sve najbolje.
Paja.

Hi Lars,
Yes I think on my last two visits to London it was still wrapped ha ha My daughter does not remember seeing it at all because the earlier visits were when she was a baby.
In the UK sadly the construction works drag for ages. In particular if you are driving. Some signs to slow down for a construction work are set up and then nothing happens for a year, and after they finish they forget to take them for a while again. So when you see the signs you are not sure whether it is real or not... So I wouldn't be surprised if they just forgot to unwrap the lamps -I will tell you next time I am there ha ha
Nice angle on the Big Ben, we can also spot the London Eye and still some cranes behind.
Very well done,
M

Hi Lars,
A photo subject familiar to all of us. And still this angle with stairs and bare trees seems new to me. Really wonderful view. And it is surprising there's almost nobody in this frame in this very touristic and busy place.

Hello Lars
Love the image for the POV you used. Even though the crane detracts from the presentation. The image is sharp and fully saturated. I guess you have to get them when you can.

Hallo Lars,
Je hebt toch een minder vaak voorkomend standpunt gevonden om ons de Big Ben te tonen.
De bomen en de planten zorgen voor een originele voorgrond voor een Londense foto.
We krijgen ook nog een glimp te zien van de London Eye.
Vele groeten, Paul

Hi Lars
A tremendous angled and upward pov on this iconic clocktower. Good sharpness and superb shadow detail with a partly diffused light. Tfs!

Hello Lars, doesn't it look magnificent after all the work and restoration. The gold really stands out around the clock and the tower.
The building to the left of your shot is also part of the Parliamentary offices, (as you probably know) and is called Portcullis House.
An excellent sharp shot.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Lars,
Big Ben is always impressive, but seeing it this close makes it seem even more beautiful. We can appreciate all the detailed work on this iconic tower and clock. There are still some lights covered up, and a crane in the background, but it's a great shot from a great POV. Take care!

Hi Lars
I like that we can see a glimpse of the London Eye in the bg.
but the best part for me is seeing this as a pedestrian would, like on an ordinary everyday walk. its an original view.
for that its worth 2 points alone. cheers

Hello Lars,
The most iconic clock-tower in the world, IMHO.
Wonderful picture from street level, details of the unique architecture and the surrounding with the chopped trees immaculately shown.
Have a nice sunday,
Ike
