The hat man, a photo from London, England

Photographer's Note

I'm back home.
I got so many photos from London, but it will take a lot of time to go over them. I chosed to start with a simple one. This was taken in the Camden Lock Market. This is a very crowdy and colorful market, in the mood of the 60's and the 70's. A great place for street shots.
I took two cameras with me - the digital small Fuji Finepix601, and the Canon EOS500N (not digital) with two lenses. I tried to capture this guy with the Fuji, but is has a small zoom, and the guy was too nervous when he saw me going around with the camera. So I crossed the street and took out the Canon with the 300mm zoom. What a powerful tool! I stood there maybe 20 minutes, waiting for this guy to come to the desired position, and I got several fast photos.
Taken with a ISO 200 Kodak film.

I think your patience was well rewarded, Yitzhak. This a very colourful composition. I like the way the styles of the hats just don't seem to match the character of the guy selling them. And he still looks nervous. Well seen and captured.
I am really looking forward to all your London photos. This is a good start.

Excellent subject and composition. Great mix of hats – and only one head... The mirror is a nice detail. Very-very well seen and captured, Yitzhak.

Nice picture, it looks very light though, but you have captured this mans expressions very well indeed and it seems as though he hasnt sold many hats. Great selection of hats colour

Very colourful and vivid composition with all these hats! I like the prevailing red and black colours here as well as how the black jacket of the man fits in that colourful combination. But yes - he still seems a bit nervous...or maybe a bit unhappy..and seems you don't give up easily Yitzhak. :-) Very well seen and captured!

Hai Yitzak at last the pictures of London are here. Good picture with a lot of different colors. All the heads are good details. The expression of the man is also very good. You make him indeed very nervous..;)) Nice lights to. I hope to see more London!

Welcome back, Yitzhak, I guess everyone was waiting to see your first London shot. And this one is great, a very fun and colorful composition. Your patience sure was rewarded here. The guy's sceptical look and the mirror on the right are fine details.

A fun shot Yitzhak. I like how this is such a busy shot. Very good colours and a strong composition with all these different hats.

A good colourful shot, maybe a little bright in places. The man looks a bit out of place among the hats. I think that is the attraction of the shot.

Camden, just reading that gives me sweet memories and your pictures makes the memories even clearer. I regognize the "feeling" of Camden here. A bit crowded a bit chaotic and very colourfull, both when it comes to pepole and what's on display.

The man has an interesting face and expression and you placed him well at the edge of the frame, leaving the rest of the space for all those hats, and that's where I don't like it so much.
In my opinion they're not very interesting, they don't make a pattern just a mess, and they more ore less hides his face instead of bringing it out as I think the background should. They resembles his head too much in size and luminance, they should be either much darker or much lighter or a different scale. I would claim it's overexposed too.

Safely home again - I'm glad about, Yitzhak. And hope your trip was so good as the photo is.
Even if I agree with some points of Torben's critique, I consider it a good one, with a lot of different colours and forms, representing well that conglomerat called London.
A man without hat, turning his back, surrounded by a lot of hats - he doesn't want to belong there?
And, and - I stop here my fantasy, wrote enough.
But I'm still looking to it, and let my fantasy free...

Fun and exciting hats! I really enjoy the random composition of the hats, which makes a nice background for the gentleman at left. Lighting is just a tad harsh, but nice work.

Oh I'm glad to see a photo from Camden Lock - I use to visit those (sunday) markets when I'm in London (Too bad - not very often)

You find a very fine motif - with "style" - I like the cropping and framing - good work Yitzhak.
