COMMON BLUE BUTTERFLY (Polyommatus icarus)
common by name reasonably common in fact found through-out the UK because it`s plant food are members of the pea and bean family mainly the the Vetches and clovers. The male which this is has metalic blue tops to the wing which makes them difficult to get a clean open wing picture , the female comes in 2 forms , normal is brown with orange markings round the edge, there is also a blue winged form which still has the orange spots that the male does not. They over winter as caterpillars which then have a quick extra feed up as it warms up in the spring before pupatae at the base of the food plants. it is possible for there to be several generations in a year with each adult living for about 3 weeks. There are 13 other types of Blues found in the UK some are very rare so not often seen.
I was lucky with this one its been a very over cast day here looked like rain but we had a few gaps in the clouds so it came out to warm-up and was prepared to sit there while I took its.
(Have posted to work shop him with open wings) picture.

We meet too little, I gave up on the clubs, now I have some time for TE,. I love this little b'fly. Maybe USM a bit too sharp, but a beautiful picture and wonderful texture on the scales

Très belle photo avec un superbe contraste des couleurs entre les deux ailes du papillon. Je préfère d'ailleurs celle-ci à l'autre où le papillon est vu d'en haut. Félicitations !

Oh, the little blue beauties are back! I haven't seen any around here yet, but I'm looking forward to their return ;-))
I agree with Callie that maybe you hit USM a bit too hard, but otherwise it's a gorgeous capture.
