Photographer's Note
Yesterday I showed the wool yarns from the bazaar in Shiraz. I liked the colours. Maybe they were natural colours obtained from plants or insects. And maybe the yarn would be used in carpet weaving. Here three photos of carpets that are sold on the bazaar.
A Persian carpet is a heavy textile made for a wide variety of utilitarian and symbolic purposes and produced in Iran (historically known as Persia), for home use, local sale, and export. Carpet weaving is an essential part of Persian culture and Iranian art. Within the group of Oriental rugs produced by the countries of the so-called "rug belt", the Persian carpet stands out by the variety and elaborateness of its manifold designs.
In 2010, the "traditional skills of carpet weaving" in Fars Province and Kashan were inscribed to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists.
The beginning of carpet weaving remains unknown, as carpets are subject to use, deterioration, and destruction by insects and rodents.
In most Persian rugs, the pile is of sheep's wool. Its characteristics and quality vary from each area to the next, depending on the breed of sheep, climatic conditions, pasturage, and the particular customs relating to when and how the wool is shorn and processed. Different areas of a sheep's fleece yield different qualities of wool,
Traditional dyes used in Persian rugs are obtained from plants and insects.
The most famous Persian carpet is the Ardabil
The most expensive carpet in the world is a 17th-century Persian vase style carpet, afshar collection which was sold in June 2013 in an London auction for $33.8m.
The "Carpet of Wonder" in the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat, in the Sultanate of Oman, measures 4,343 square metres. Its construction required four years of labour by 600 workers, resulting in 12 million man hours of work.
Iran is also the maker of the largest handmade carpet in history, measuring 5,624.9 square metres

Hello Malgo,
It's a good photo, and very colourful to say the least, and I like the position of the man sitting on the left side. Some of the carpets seem to be of fairly modern designs, showing that the Persian carpet industry is not stuck in the same place where it has been for hundreds of years. I hope the quality is as good as before. To my mind the colours are a bit strong, but it may be an effect of the artificial light. The WS photos are also interesting, but of course this is my favourite. People!
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Malgo,
It looks like the fluorescent light has given a green tint in the fg. Easy to fix using the laso and adding magenta. Just noticed the 2nd man in the bg, who balances the composition with the man seated at left. Tfs!

Hello Malgo,
Lots of appealing colours and patterns again, lit by a fine, yet difficult light, which you handled really well. The two sellers are well included too, although they look a bit bored.

The salesman seem to be lost in his tought. The point of view is showing the details of the persian carpets. The light is giving good rendering of the colors. Have anice day.

Hello Malgo,
I tried to critique this yesterday but, for some reason, was not given the normal, daily complement of critiques. Anyway, better late than never.
Your photograph is ablaze with colours! and patterns. It's the perfect subject for photography and I like how you have cropped the scene so well. Everything in frame is useful.
The salesman is strongly placed and, his link to his colleague in the back, gives a good sense of depth.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Malgo, three very good photos; so many carpets!
And how much time has it taken for the rugs and carpets to be produced?
An excellent composition with the trader looking towards you.
Thanks for sharing, regards Jean.

I liked this chaos of carpets and its colors and patterns while the personages are in the scenery well positioned. I liked, but I don't think many people buy rich carpets nowadays.
take care

Hello Malgo,
This photo has nice colors, too. Are these hand made carpets or factory woven ones with traditional designs? 👍🏻👍🏻

Hello Malgo,
It aren't only the colours and motifs that make these carpets and photos so attractive.
But I've always had a bit of a soft spot for carpets.
Wonderful main photo with both men as part of the carpet shop.
Best regards, Paul
