Canyon on Qeshm Island, a photo from Hormozgan, East

Photographer's Note

Chahkooh valley or Chahkooh canyon is located in 70 kilometres from city of Qeshm. It’s believed that Qeshm Island has seven wonders, and in the recent years more adventurous tourists have been eager to find out about the gems of the southern parts of Iran.
It is a narrow canyon with vertical rims and wonderful formations, which seems to be representing a creative artist’s demonstration. (iran tourism and touring organization) In some cases, the width of these rims reaches even to 1 m. This canyon which has been created in a layer of sand and due to the existence of marl layers, silt and lime and their dissolving erosion in holes, several beautiful ruts have been created. Since the floor of the canyon is the place on which water flows after each time raining, the locals have graved well (Chah in Persian) on it to make use of water, so the name “Chahkooh’ which means “Mount Well” has accordingly been chosen for it. The exposed rock and lack of plant life are quite startling and invoke a quiet sense of awe. The canyon's rounded edges and sharp corners create a symphony in stone of imposing proportions. Hi Malgo

At first I thought this shot had a cyan tint, but the man's red shirt looks just as vibrant as a red should be. It would look washed out if it was a true colour cast, so this must be the natural colour. Good sharpness and the canyon provides natural perspective. Tfs!

Hello Malgo,

This is a place like no other!
The natural rock sculptures are so surreal! They are not like worn shapes caused by water erosion!
I actually like your w/s photo, showing a wider view of the canyon which seems like a better composition but this one definitely has its own merits for narrowness and weird shapes.

Hello Malgo,
This reminds me of the siq at Petra, but maybe this is even narrower. The light was difficult, but a careful study of the larger version tells me that it's only in a small part at the top that the camera couldn't handle the exposure. I had exactly the same experience at Petra. The rest of the photo is fascinating, and it's the man in red (why no lady?) who adds some spice to the view.

Hi Malgo,

The presence of the person has an effect of scale. The point of view is showing the details of the Chahkooh Canyon. The light is giving different tints of colors to the scene. Have a nice day.

Quelle belle photo. Une chance qu'il y a un manteau rouge pour éclairer le centre de ce canyon très étroit. J'aime beaucoup le rayon de soleil au fond et le bel effet entonnoir.

Hello Malgo, three very informative pictures. I can understand why you selected this shot for your main post, but your other shot with the people walking carefully through the space, could easily have been another main post.
The shapes are fascinating, and as you say, there is a marked lack of vegetation.

Swietna seria zdjec z tego kanionu.Zastanawiam sie tylko czy bezpiecznie mozna go opuscic podczas deszczu - wtedy wody z reguly szybko przybiera.
