Photographer's Note
Posht Ghale is a military fort built originally during Sassanian era (224-651 AD) close to today's city of Abdanan, Ilam province, Iran. The fort locates on top of a 200m height hill in a area of ca 2 hectares and is mainly made from layered stone and plaster as mortar. The fort is surrounded by fortifications and towers in which its ruins indicate remnants of observation towers, rooms, dais, stairways etc. An elliptical fortification surrounds the fort; main external walls which divide the fort into three individual parts, are relatively intact. Along with fortifications there are some equally distant crenated towers with small observation rooms with arched ceiling.
