My Intro to Israel, Day 1, Scene 3

We finally arrived at our destination by the Dead Sea at around 7:30 PM. After our introduction to Israeli hotel cuisine we had to walk some of it off. We went down to the shore and I was talked into tasting the Dead Sea by dipping my fingers in it and then licking them. Now, in my life time, I have had some accidentally over salted food, but this was saltier than anything I have ever experienced.

This is a photo of our hotel taken from the shore. Ein Bokek is a hotel and resort district on the Israeli shore of the Dead Sea, 3 km north of Neve Zohar. According to Wikipedia, the world's lowest ATM is at Ein Bokek, installed by a grocery store at 421 metres (1381 feet) below sea level.

Biz sonunda yaklaşık 19:30 da Ölü Deniz kenarındaki hedefimize vardık. İsrail otel mutfağı ile tanıştıktan sonra birazını yürüyerek atmalıydık. Sahile indik ve ben parmağımı daldırıp yalayarak Ölü Denizi tatmaya ikna edildim. Şimdi, benim hayat boyunca, yanlışlıkla bazan çor gibi yemek tattım, ama bu şimdiye kadar denediğim her şeyden tuzlu idi.

Bu otelimizin kıyıdan alınmış bir fotoğrafı. Ein Bokek Neve Zohar’ın 3 km kuzeyinde Ölü Denizin İsrail kıyısında bir otel ve tatil bölgesidir. Vikipedi’ye göre, dünyanın en alçak ATMsi bir bakkal tarafından deniz seviyesinin altında 421 metrede (1381 feet) monteli Ein Bokek’te yer almaktadır.

Hi Murat, Is such hotel near the Dead Sea? Excellent night shot. Dead Sea is salty, isn't it. But the feeling is of something oily as well. The lowest ATM, haha.

It is rather new to me, to see the hotel are lit with such colors, Murat. The few nights ever spent in this area, not remember such illuminations.
Anyway, it doe's an intriguing strip to walk along both night's and daytime, with the mountains rising beyond.

this is an interesting presentation of the seaside hotel that stands in an extraordinary place. There's some glow and noise in the frame -I believe this kind of themes demand special technical treatment- but the depth and definition you've achieved are remarkable. Your composition is well balanced and you've captured the atmosphere and colours in a precise and interesting way. Congratulations and thank you!

Dear Murat Bey,

Your photo shows excellent light control, and the accompanying note is first rate for TE. The modern buildings in Tel Aviv and Haifa especially affirm that Israel is a Western outpost in the Middle East.

In the late 70s and early 80s I made half-a-dozen visits to the area, ending up in Haifa each time. My good friend and coauthor, whom I had met in Oxford, was a theoretical physicist at the Technion. The skyline of Israel has changed substantially since the 80s. I was there last time in April 2013.

Reminiscence of Vegas the city that never sleep!
This is a glorious image you have chosen the perfect time to take your shot; dark enough to show the true effect of warm light and glowing colours, but still bright to show some fg detail and the surroundings. The building makes a really interesting view and something to gaze - really excellent low light shot. Congrats

I liked the contrast of the golden light against the dark night. nice details of architecture and the movement of the tourists by the night. it is a pity the grainy image. reading your note I imagined how it would be.

Hi Murat,

Are you sure this wasn't taken in Miami? :) Quite a colorful night time picture, and one which projects quite a vibrant atmosphere with those colors and lights. Growing up in Utah I've been out to the Great Salt Lake many, many times...I totally understand the salt factor! lol

Still crazy to think this is below sea level, just doesn't seem possible!? A very nice result under the dark skies. Enjoy the rest of the evening. Take it easy.
