Red train riding the desert, a photo from Beer Sheva, Southern

Photographer's Note

Trains is a well followed theme on TE, so here is my humble contribution:

A swift photo-action through the bus window, on our way back from Be’er-Sheva visit, as I saw the red train cruising through the North-Negev desert.
The train is north-bound, and moving from right to left over the picture – the locomotive is pushing in a reverse, not as the usual pulling. The red wagons are made by Bombardier.
Smoke rising on the background is from somewhere on the fields far beyond the tracks.
Approximate location on the map, near Beit-Kama junction: 31.455, 34.77

Technicals: RAW converted into JPEG, cropped a bit from left side to avoid obstructing object, F5.0, 1/800, ISO100.

Hello Ike,

Trains are always a extraordinarily subject.
The diesel train in full drive middle of a dry landscape.
Of course wonderful for a picture with the nice colours.
This creates depth and perspective.
Your picture has nice composition and excellent presentation.

On le voit tout ern entirer quelle image ce train rouge et blanc avec la locomotive d'une autre couleur et ce pré tout doré comme un flèche qui filet sueprbe.

I cannot remember to have taken a train when travelling through your country ... All my trips there were made by bus.

Great photo of this train, which stretches over the length of the photo. It also forms a great division between the yellow/brown field and the blue sky. The colours are all very attractive.

It's a quite simple photo but stunningly eye-catching. As you say, trains are popular here, but we don't always see such a bright train in an environment like this. The red line between the blue and light brown areas is extremely catchy.

Hello Ike,

Looks like the Nullarbor (null-arbor in Latin = no trees) in Western Australia, or the Ghan train in South Australia. All 3 including this area are equally desolate and devoid of greenery. Good sharpness and this train looks quite modern. Tfs!

It is a beautiful view of the train and I love the color combination. The train looks so clean that it looks like a toy. I think I would have left out the guard rail of the road.

Great composition with the red train dividing the landscape in a part with the sky and a part with the naked land. I suppose I had cropped the lower part of the picture with the grey crash barrier.

I like very much this kind of train in the landcape shots. And dry desert like environment is something no so often seen on railway pictures. Well captured shot from a moving bus. Red double deck cars remind German ones.

funny, when I think of Israel, trains for some reason just don't ever come to mind. as for the train itself, you couldn't have picked a better train bc of its bright red color. combine that with the blue sky and brown/yellow desert landscape it all comes together smartly. cheers

Hello Ike, I am a train enthusiast, I love long journeys, even a few days, like in Siberia. So it is interesting for me. It is strange that you write that the locomotive is pushing, how could it be? I was in such train but the pushing was in a short distance where there was a change of direction. I had no idea you have trains in Israel. Must be great experience. But you do not give here information about the speed. Good and sharp picture as fro the shot from the bus window. Why you didn't try this train?

A different post, Ike. Well taken even from a moving bus.
You had favourable sunlight and a good viewpoint to see the whole train.
Are these double deck wagons?

very minimalist and so impressive. I like very much how the red train makes the horizon line in the picture. The landscape is so dry. I like deserts very much.

Hello Ike,

What a great shot from a moving bus!
This looks like a very sleek, fast train.
For your purpose, how good that it is red, which is a colour that always adds vivacity to a photograph!
The arid f/g gives a good colour contrast with the other colour layers.

I think, a little crop of the sky would have removed the train from being too central in the composition and would have been more panoramic. Just my opinion but see what you think.

Quite impressive this long, red line crossing the desert ! The contrast is effective.
Surprising and interesting to know that the locomotive is pushing the train rather than pulling it.

Hi Ike,
A fine picture but maybe you should hav cropped away the foreground fence and positioned the train at one third from the bottom and added more sky. Then it would have been perfect.

Ike, the train red and black painting contrast with the golden Negev desert. The passengers seated on board should enjoy stunning views from the windows. It is a useful means of transport connecting different part of the country. Fine colors, good sharpness, interesting photo note, regards.
