Photographer's Note
The front view of the descent from the dunes really looks like a picture taken from above through a drone. I really like this perspective, shame about the quality because of the difficult light, in fact everyone was returning from the classic sunset appointment on the dunes. In the WS a diagonal view to better understand the whole.
The desert was formed during the Quaternary period as a result of the forces of south-west blowing monsoon and the northern shamal trade wind, coming in from the east.Based on the types of dunes found in the area, it is divided into the high, or upper, Wahiba and low Wahiba. The upper area contains mega-ridge sand systems on a north-south line that are believed to have been formed by monsoon. The dunes of the north, formed at some point after the last regional glaciation, measure up to 100 meters (330 ft) high, with peaks accumulating in the areas just beyond the strongest wind speeds, where declining velocity wind deposited sand. The north and west boundaries of the desert are delineated by the fluvial systems Wadi Batha and Wadi Andam.Beneath the surface sands are an older layer of cemented carbonate sand. Alluvium deposits believed to have originated from the Wadi Batha during the Paleolithic era have been disclosed in the central desert 200 meters (660 ft) beneath the interdune surface.Wind erosion is believed to have contributed to the existence of a nearly level plain in the southwest.
The area is occupied by Bedouins who congregate at Al-Huyawah, an oasis near the border of the desert, between June and September to gather dates. Tribes present in the area at the time of the Royal Geographical Society expedition included, predominately, Al Wahiba (or Yal Wahiba) for whom the region is named, Al-Amr, Al-Bu-Isa, Hikman, Hishm and Janaba.
EFFETTO DRONE

Hello Luciano,
A great view of the dune, I really like the more reddish traces in the sand, the two people and the white car are very well included in the centre of the photo. Well captured, I like the drone effect of the photo.

Hello Luciano,
Yes, those dunes must be steep. Nice minimalist photo. The object in the lower left is bothering me, I would have left it out or cloned it out, but that is my opinion. 👍🏻

Bonjour, cher ami luciano,

Hello Luciano, Strange that the cars can ride there on the dunes. It reminds me of my climbing on the dunes of Namibia. The Workshop indeed explains the situation, but even here we see that the people are descending and do not go on the flat. Interesting note.
Kind regards MAlgo

Hi Luciano
Good colour in the sand even if, as you suggest it isn't as sharp as you usually work towards. An interesting one.

Hello Luciano,
The WS is a useful complement which explains the view, and it's also a good photo on its own, but this is even better. We can't see from here how they are going down a steep hill, so it's really as if you used Craig's drone, or found a surprising tower in the desert. The strange colours of the sand also make this a photo that catches my attention among the thumbnails. It's minimalism at its best.
Kind regards,
Gert

As the upper layer of sand is light-brown, but gliding people or vehicle, the underground layer revealed in a whole different color. The subdued light gave extra reddish tones to the dunes slopes, Luciano.
A well captured scene.
Buona giornata,

Congratulations Luciano with your first drone picture, taken without drone!
I can imagine how spectacular it is to descend such a steep dune.
I once did it on foot in Dunhuang, China and once by car in Siwa, Egypt.
However the dunes there didn't have that red colour as on your picture here.
The sand below the surface layer turns out to be even brighter red.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Luciano,
Excellent angle for showing people and that car coming down the dune. It seems that they all are creating mini sandslides on the way. Thanks for the WS too giving clear idea about the steepness of the slope.

Luciano, the visitors just come back after having admired the sunset on the dunes. The two persons and the Sport Utility Vehicle indicate the scale and how huge the dune is in reality. Good pov, fine colors.

Great photo! The bird's eye view effect is very strong, indeed like take from a drone. I love the contrast between the reddish sand and the splashes of blue - the car and the person in blue T-shirt.
Have a nice weekend

Hi Luciano
this is one of those photos where it's probably being there that makes it so much better - its hard for us the viewer to get the same experience as you, as you were walking down these dunes. the WS helps to put everything back into the correct perspective and understanding for us :) I wish I could have been there too! fun shots and awesome memories. cheers

Hello Luciano
Fortunately, we do not always need a drone to take this type of fascinating and spectacular photo.
The addition of the workshop gives a good image of the situation.
Beautiful photo work.

Hello, Luciano!
This is a great action shot, taken from a very nice high POV that really makes it look like it was taken from a drone! I like the different tones of the sand and the presence of the white car that stands out beautifully here! Wonderful place and composition!

Ciao Caro Luciano,
My favourite is the w/s photograph, especially with the vehicles descending the dune, something I would not have imagined. But, I do understand why you wanted to post the other as the main shot for it does look like a drone photograph.
It's rerally interesting how the sand changes colour where it has been disturbed!
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Ciao Luciano
I once tried to walk up a 500 metre high sandhill in the south Gobi desert and let me tell you it is tough work. You need to take 3 steps up and slide back downhill 2 steps! By the time I had gotten 1/2 way up the sun had already set, so I abandoned the idea of reaching the summit. The car seems to have no trouble going downhill but I doubt it would make it uphill. We had to let the air pressure in the tires down for a modest 30 degree slope in coastal sand dunes on Fraser Island. This one looks closer to 60 degrees! Tfs!

Hi luciano.
You have also joined the drone fever. No doubt this photo from the heights is very curious with these shades of color of the sand, which at the level of the safe ground are not appreciated, curious the perspective of the two people and the car.
A good management, both of the luminosity, as of the sharpness.
Very well done. I like it.
Enjoy the weekend.
My best wishes for you.

Ciao Luciano,
brilliant capture!
I like even more the workshop photo which has the benefit of the repeated motif of the car.
Charming color of the cars by the way.
I wonder what happens if the upper car starts sliding, is the distance enough to stop...?

Hi Luciano
Your drone effect is relatively accurate. I served 20 years in the military, with some perspective here. The car must have great treaded tires to grip the sand for traction. Drone angles are not normally that low. Nice cinema movie rendition of a drone view however. Fun photo - drt100 David
