Photographer's Note

Another shot of the Byzantine frescos in the old Hagia Sofia / Aya Sofya church in Trabzon. Peacock feathers and griffins were a popular motif back then. This is part of the Evangelists' fresco. The church was built in the 13th century AD and converted to a mosque in 1584 AD. It is now a museum. More information and photos here:

Those frescos are fantastic, such a beautiful work of art. The colours go so well together, the mix of blue and yellow is most appealing. Well captured in a good composition.

Hello Chris,
I saw this church in 1971, so I must have been looking at this fresco although I admit I don't remember it. It's quite a marvellous work of art and very well preserved. This well exposed photo gives us a good view of it.
