Reflecting Back...The Camel Rock, a photo from Nevsehir, Central Anatolia

Photographer's Note

This is Devrent Valley in Cappadocia, also known as Imaginary Valley and also as Pink Valley. It does not have cave churches like the other valleys of Cappadocia, nor does it have any tombs or fairy chimney houses. Actually it was never inhabited. So what makes it so famous is the lunar landscape!

The small fairy chimneys in the valley form a lunar landscape, or moonscape, by their strange look. The valley also has many animal shaped rocks. It looks like a sculpture zoo made by nature. Some of the most important, or the easiest seen animal shapes are camel, snake, seals, and dolphin. This is a place to let your mind run free in a seemingly lunar landscape with rock formations that look like animals.

This is the famous camel rock in Devrent Valley. I tried to picture it with a twist…When I saw the reflection of this iconic rock on the tinted glass of a tourist van, how could I resist?

I also tried to be allegorical with this picture ....as we reflect back on the year which has gone by (well almost :-)) and also take this opportunity to..

salutations angshuman. you found a good way to underexpose this stone camel. looking at the real light outside, this was a wise use of pseudo ND filter :) i find how they trapped the thing inside fences quite funny, as if otherwise it would escape.

seeing that you find time to upload a new photo, i guess end of the year rush at work has slowed down a bit. i also wish you and the family a great 2014, healthy and happy.

ps: indeed, that bridge is the last one on golden horn, where we had passed under in a bus and then back in cabs. the closest time you got to that view was near the chora museum. and yes, that long lens is a good toy, not only for safari.

The reflections on the Mirror are assets to the composition. The point of view is showing the détails and colors of the reflections. The good luminosity is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

It was a nice idea to capture this view indirectly through the mirror. It has changed and probably improved the colours and light, judging from the glimpse of the "real" very harsh light beside the mirror.

Great innovation and thinking behind this photo. The blue tone of the sky has come out very well on the mirror, rather than the original light which we see in the slim area. The rock formations look great and fan our imagination to search for resembling objects among them. Their beige color contrast well with the blue sky. Thanks for sharing an excellent picture.

J'aime beaucoup cette composition. Le jeu de miroir est excellent et nous fait regarder à deux fois. L'endroit est beau et le ciel un peu polarisé est du plus bel effet. Les rochers sont magnifiques.

Lovely, I like how you have used the glass window of the vehicle as a lens minus the glare! putting the "real" image on the side sharp in focus and offsetting into two horizon-vertical lines as points of ref. Hello,

good idea to show this view from Dervent valley as reflection with a twist. One can see really the the camel here. The people wanted to ride it so now there is a fence around. Fascinating place, Capadoccia. But my imagination was rather weak and I haven't see n some shapes.

No, in warsaw there was no snow this winter. it was rather warm as for winter. Today we have a bit of frost.

I am going to have to go to Cappadocia sooner or later. Good angled pov with excellent sharpness and superb density levels which have given punchy light contrasts and nice graphis, with both shadows and highlights correctly exposed. Good warm cold color contrasts between the blue and yellow. Tfs!

a great idea for the framing in this clever composition, I like how you have used the mirror of the car in order to create a fantastic allegory of this reflection, as watching back to 2013.
These rock formations are very attractive at sight, its capricious shapes have a high aesthetical level, and people gives us a good reference.

Photographers can barely resist anything that evokes that feeling for even a fraction of a second. be it people or places. We crave for that feeling that just lasts for a second, and then voila...we have something that could last a thousand years.

I remember doing this tour, was it the red tour, or the yellow tour was it ? This place is exotic, isn't it. Am happy you have shared these here, i crashed out with a few from turkey owing to a transition in personal life etc..
