Photographer's Note

A few million years ago, volcanic eruptions covered the plateau of Cappedocia with tufa, a stone made of volcanic ash, mud and stone. Wind and rain have eroded this soft rock, creating the surreal rock formations seen today. Within the area are chapels, manasteries and cave dwellings carved into the rocks, along with several underground cities.
