Photographer's Note
Cold drops of rain on window, in front of firing warm colors outside...
"All of the snow and chilly temps this winter almost convinced us that global warming isn't happening, after all. Reality check: recent climate data shows that it's still hotter than it used to be.
The planet's average temperature was 57.9 degrees Fahrenheit (14.4 degrees Celsius) last year, making it the eighth warmest year on record since 1880, according to the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC). But your goose bumps werent deceiving you: 2008 was also the coldest year since the beginning of the decade, according to data from NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies. (Hat tip to Ars Technica for alerting us to this info in their analysis of climate trends yesterday.)
Global warming is responsible for the overall upward temperature trend, and any snow outside our window shouldnt convince us that Earth has stopped heating up, says Richard Heim, an NCDC meteorologist. "Most of the top 10 warmest years have happened in the last decade and a half," Heim tells ScientificAmerican.com. "Global warming does not mean every year will be warmer than the previous year. Global warming means there's an increasing frequency of warmer temperatures and a decreasing frequency of cooler temperatures, and thats definitely what we're seeing."
So how to explain the relatively colder winters we've had in the latter half of this decade? Goddard attributes them to La Niña, a cyclical pattern of cold sea-surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean. La Niña in the first half of 2008, followed by a neutral period in the latter half, likely had something to do with it, Heim says, but adds that global warming is about long-term, rising temperature trends over time. "It's kind of like a drunk driver," Heim says. "The car is weaving back and forth, but it's still progressing forward."
"Cold winter doesn't mean global warming is over"

Hi Deniz
Quite an abstract created by the rain drops on the window, with the large refracted light lamps creating orbs..simple motif but well executed. Maybe one of the rare ones where there's no sign of life
Best,

among your latest shots, dear Deniz, I choose this one, which is very interpretative. It's your version of reality, very personal, I think it's really interesting...you told so many things (even in your note) using just a few simple elements. I'd say this is a "written" image, I really like it :-))

this simple graphic image is magical because of the light forms and shallow depth of focus.... elements seem to float and shimmer, evoking fascination and indeed as you say, convergences of warmth and chill....
cheers, richard

I like the quote alot..really sums up the note..i have pretended ive read the note ;)
ive seen a few frames which involved the light bokeh and the sharp details of droplets of water...but this is so chique..so cool..you've stamped your individuality..i am not sure..your photos accentuates you or you accentuate your photos..you see the "moments" of light and patterns like few..

D. Fincher'ın o akla ziyan güzel filmi 'seven'a ait
;) selamlar,

Abstract as it seems at the very first sight, still it's a view we are so well acquaint with nowadays.
Very climatic indeed :))

Hi Deniz
I like your minimalistic shot, playing with the light, and lokking as a close-up. Blurred white circles and the headlight at the top right are answering the sharp drops.
kind regards

Hello Deniz,
bad weather outside good photos inside, nice enssemble with the lights and raindrops combined in the window.
The association with the climate changes was a good idea, and indeed we start to feel them with more strength. High temperatures in Summer, low, low temperatures and very hard rains in Winter, only the folls attending to Rio de Janeiro, Kyoto and lately Copenhagen conferences doesn't seem to see this phenomenon coming (or don't care???).
Cheers.
