Photographer's Note
Although I don't capture many sunsets, I think some places like Pamukkale should be photographed with such orange hue; I especially like the reflection of the light on the normally white travertines - a type of sedimentory rock made up of carbonate minerals. Only Huanglong in China and Mammoth hot springs in USA have similar travertines formation, but they're much smaller in scale.
Pamukkale means 'cotton castle' in Turkish. The Roman city of Hierapolis was built on top of the travertines hill and in this picture behind the trees lay a Byzantine castle.

Sunset was the perfect time to photograph these formations because not only are the orange hues beautiful, but the dark purple shadows on the rock in between the layers creates excellent contrast and helps us see just how amazing this place is. I have been to Mammoth hot springs here in the USA many times, but I've never photographed them at sunrise or sunset. After seeing how well you have captured these springs, I'm inspired to give it a try. Well done.

Hey Cheuk,
I think you're getting the hang of taking sunset images pretty well. You have displayed an amazing capture of light creating a exceptional tones and shadows. The shot itself is unique, the strong 'carroty' hues reflects the strong twilight! I thought these travertines were 'rice terraces'! The remarkable composition and timing makes this image look very impressive! Well done!

Hello dear Cheuk !
You are making me jelious ! Wonderfull and of course great idea to make a sunset capture over Pamukkale. Quite different and far far pictoresque, compared to other Pamukkale shots.
Very well done my friend !

You do manage to travel a lot Cheuk! But you manage to capture nice pictures too. The colour here is eerrie and ghostlike. You have a nice layered composition and it works well, with the ridges in the rock in the foreground, making a strong pattern. regards kevin

Hi CheukHin,
Many sunset shots show scene that would be boring in daylight. This is not one of them. Those wet steps would offer good photo opportunities anytime.
But your framing seems to be bit off as the left side is significantly less interesting. Hard to suggest alternatives without knowing what's off the screen, maybe square framing leaving left part off?

Hello Cheuk,
excellent this landscape view with the superb alternation of the light and shadows. The relief of the ground is marvellous. The sunset as background with the subdued light, with the sun still painting pastoral colors in the clouds makes this a memorable shot.Well done.

Hi Cheuk
Your version of the sunset of Pamukkale is of so much better quality than my old 1988 version taken with the compact. I wish I had my D50 then :-)
I like how you've got the red of the sun peaking behind the strong silhouettes of the trees and the soft reflection on the water is stunning. Hard to believe that this place can be overrun with tourists.

Hello Cheuk Hin
One of the best shots I've seen from Pamukkale..the colours are grand & the layered compo. works brilliantly! Love the sublime light on the travertines, which has a strong resemblance to the rice terraces of SE Asia. Wonderful!

This is a most unsual view of Pamukkale, Cheuk Hin. I'm sure others have photographed it at sunset, but it is the first one that I have seen, and you have executed this very well both in terms of composition and the technical attributes of the image. The reflections and layering are superb. Great work! Cheers . . . David
