Photographer's Note

This is a daily scene in the Creek. The photo was also taken on a Friday, by sunset, when the creek was full of abras. The abras are taxi boats that transport people to cross the creek. They are mainly used by immigrants and by tourists. They are not expensive and if you negotiate well with them, they can even take you for a tour along the creek. It’s quite interesting to look at them when they are complete because we can easily notice people from several different nationalities and cultures sitting side-by-side. The big boat in front is a dhow, the traditional boats from this area that are still much used to transport goods between Dubai and the neighbour countries. It’s interesting to watch them along the creek because they form a big contrast with all the new buildings that they have been building there. After all, this is really a city of trade and contrasts…
We can also see some of the old nice buildings of the Bastakia quarter that I’ve mentioned yesterday.
