Montreal TE meeting, a photo from Quebec, Central

Photographer's Note

This was taken during the first TE meeting in Montreal on Saturday May 5th. The participants were potential member Rebecca, Flavia and Louis

We started at the Notre Dame Basilica in old montreal and walked trhough town.

The sign is interesting as Quebequers are very purist about the use of French language. Even in France, these signs read "Stop".

jolie désaturation partielle ; j'aime bien l'ambiance de cette compo. On dirait que la personne a stopper son vélo pour finir sa promenade à pied.

Interessant cette confusion dans les panneaux indicateurs. Tu as joué les contrastes avec des touches de couleurs.
C'est assez sympa.

Hey Daniel,
The whole story about TE meeting is great, it's nice u've gathered there.
I like that u've left the signs in color and desaturated the rest of the photo. i think if I read a sign that says 'arret", I wouldn't stop, so I'll probably get a ticket:) Well done.

Hi Daniel,

How was your trip back? Excellent idea of partial dessaturation here, it works very well. You have an excellent sense of timing, the couple passing by adds a lot to the composition. I hope to see more of the pictures you took during the meeting soon on TE.

Hi Daniel!
Well done with the desaturation here.The trafficsigns contrast very well with the B&W.I don`t speak french,but I know,following the " tout directions"sign,I allways find my way out of the city and the correct direction,something we don`t have in Germany.

Hola Daniel!! Muy buen contraste, la desaturacion del fondo hace que los rojos sean mucho mas vivos. Solo dos pequeñas observaciones: 1) Las señales mas pequeñas se pierden en colores y 2)la bicicleta se vería mejor completa. De cualquier forma me gusta el resultado final!!!

Évidemment, l'idée est très bonne et la photo est réussie.
Je trouve toujours ça drôle que les Français se marrent devant les stops québécois! Mais il faut dire que les Français sont assez anglicisés quand même. Certains utilisent des mots comme ticketing, shopping, etc. Ça a beau être accepté, c'est tout de même anglais. Au Québec, on est les gardiens du vrai français...un français qui a peu évolué depuis le XVIIe siècle! C'est sans doute pour ça qu'on se fait souvent traiter de paysans par les membres de l'Académie française...Bon fini ma digression.
Pour en revenir à la photo, beau travail.

Ah le fameux panneau Arret, une vraie icone du Quebec qu'on ne trouve nulle part ailleurs sur notre petite planete, j'avais aussi pas mal flashe dessus lors de ma visite au Quebec, bien vu le coup de la desaturation partielle, il le valait bien comme on dit chez un grand fabricant de cosmetiques... Ca fait un moment qu'on t'avait plus vu, je croyais que t'avais pique un A380 pour aller faire le tour du monde ;-)

Une désaturation partielle qui convient tout à fait à cette photo. Je ne suis jamais allée au Québec, mais je peux te dire que même dans l'Ouest Canadien on voit des panneaux bilingues marqués "Stop" et "Arrêt" (en dessous). Cela nous avait bien fait rire!
La compo est bonne avec juste ce qu'il faut comme passants pour mettre un peu d'animation dans la rue. Et j'aime bien ce vélo accroché au poteau, un peu comme si son propriétaire avait décidé d'appliquer à la lettre l'ordre donné sur le panneau.

Not everyone's taste I know but I love partial de-saturation. There is a particular point to it here too with the subject of the image being the "arret" sign which happens to be red. In the composition as a whole I like the parked bike and the couple walking across the road.

Très belle compo, avec une désaturation partielle bienvenue (je ne suis pas super fan de la méthode d'habitude), car couplée avec un très beau travail sur le NB.
Bravo, j'aime beaucoup le côté eyecatcher de l'image.

Interesante imagen, me gusta la idea de combinar blanco y negro con color, la desaturación parcial sobre los colores rojos han creado una escena completamente diferente, supiste ver a la perfección el momento y el lugar, te felicito por tu creatividad.

A good view of Montreal. The B&W works well for this part of the city, it gives a fine contrast here with these buildings. And it's even better that you kept the red parts coloured. Nice story about the word 'Arrêt'. Thanks for sharing!

Une belle rencontre qui mêt bien en valeur les points rouges de la photo.
C'est vrai que c'est amusant comment les Québécois préservent la qualité du français, cela s'entend aussi dans leurs expressions.

J’ai bien apprécié ta note, qui m’a bien entendu décroché un sourire... C’est vrai que nous sommes en minorité dans une mer anglophone, alors il y a parfois des situations qui peuvent paraître extrêmes... Mais crois-moi, il y en a des pires que celle-là! D’ailleurs dans mon quartier, mi-anglo, mi-franco, notre signalisation est bilingue!!!

Bonne utilisation d’un traitement de désaturation partielle, qui met en évidence nos panneaux "exotiques"... Avec le vélo qui nous conduit directement dans la scène, le premier plan offre davantage de dimension à la composition.

glad to find out about the meeting. it is a good idea to leave those in red . also a good point how you took the photo while people were walking towards the direction of the arrow. supporting the theme maybe
