Photographer's Note
Desert in Canada? Carcross Desert in Yukon is often referred to as the smallest desert in the world. But it is actually a series of sand dunes. This was one of the stops on South Klondike Highway scenic drive.
The sand was formed during the last glacial period, when large glacial lakes formed and deposited silt. When the lakes dried, the dunes were left behind. Today, sand comes mainly from nearby Bennett Lake, carried by wind.

Hi Tiffany. A total surprise to see a desert in Canada- not the sort of picture associated with mountains, lakes, rivers, forests...Excellent exposure and colours. Regards. Klaudio.

Hello Tiffany,
I can picture this scene as a winter wonderland just a few months earlier, enshrouded in deep snow. Your note is very good to explain the area. The names "Yukon" and "Klondike" remind me of The Royal Canadian Mounted Police in movies of the past.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Bonjour Tiffany,
Très impressionnante cette couleur de sable. Et encore de plus de voir des braves arbres pousser dans ce sol désertique. Les montagnes sont magnifiques à l'arrière plan.
Amicalement

Hi Tiffany,
I could not imagine there were such a desert in Canada ! The contrast with the trees and the green mountains make the atmosphere very strange.
Have a nice weekend,
Olivier

Hi Tiffany,
I didn't know that Canada has desert. Beautiful mountains landscape photography with golden sand in the foreground and summits in the background. Great colors, light and sharpness.
Kind regards,
Zbigniew

Hi Tiffany
we don't get to see many photos from the Yukon on TE do we!
interesting note, i'm glad you gave us some history of this place.
the mountains are common in Canada, but to see the typical Canadian trees in a desert landscape is kinda weird!
great post for TE, a welcome sight.
cheers
Craig
