Photographer's Note

this abandoned homestead near Big River is a reminder of the tough life the settlers had to cope with. Thousands of immigrants settled in the Prairies hoping to start a new life. Many tried desperately for a few years to make a living in this harsh land- and then gave up.
Big River is in the Parkland area, here the flat arid landscape of the southern prairies changes to aspen and pine forest.
