Photographer's Note
This is called an inukshuk, a traditional stone sculpture used by Inuit people (also known as Eskimos). They build these in the vast northern lands to help mark the way, especially in winter when everything is covered by snow. This one is located in Vancouver, and is more for decoration. I believe it was originally on display during a world's fair in 1986, and then after the fair it was moved to it's present location near the beach. This also happens to be the basis for the official symbol of the 2010 Winter Olympics, which will be held in Vancouver.

Olá Alvin!
Bela foto! As cores ficaram perfeitas apesar da baixa luminosidade! Gostei também das silhuetas das pessoas ao fundo, enriquecem a foto!
Parabéns e Abraço!

Awesome shot Alvin, You can see all of the colours of the spectrum leading up from your sunset. The inclusion of the park benches and people give it a certain warmth as well, and provide some indication of scale.
Thanks, John

Great shot, The proportions are perfect and the colors of the sky are just to die for. The silouette effect of the front view is perfectly black making it so dramatic and directs your eyes to the horizon. The fact that the other shore cuts the water from the sky increases the depth and drags you in further into the landscape.. truly facinating.
Thank you for this shot!

Hi Alvin. Great photo. This image has a graphic feel about it, such strong colours and sharp silhouette. It’s only the people in the BG that add the human touch and scale. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.

Hallo Alvin!
You show us an impressive object in front of an eve more impressive sky. I like that there are people around the sculpture, which - I think - states a man. This must be a great place. Thank you for showing!
Greetings from Germany!

Hi Alvin,
What a splendid sky you're showing us here! The gradient of colours is incredible. Your compo is good and the inukshuk in the the foreground adds depth to the whole image. I also like the presence of people who have obviously come to admire this stunning sunset. Regards, Brigitte

Bonjour Alvin,
Quelle finesse du détail, magnifique composition sur fond de soleil couchant, cette sculpture Inuit n'eut pas été mieux mise en valeur quà la tombée de la nuit, se découpant sur ce ciel somptueux.
Joli travail

Including the two people at lower right adds a lot of interest, and it provides extra scale, too. NIce placement of the sculpture in the frame (good old rule of thirds, not always a rule made to be broken.) The result is a very successful shot. Less profound than some, but more beautiful. Of course one could say the same about Paris Hilton, but your photo has greater artistic merit. Regards, Ken.

Hi Alvin
Fantastic graphism & silhouettes of the inukshuk structure. I also like the row of park benches along the foreshore in the distance. Good sunset colors & tfs!

Hi Alvin,
Wow is that nice ! The coloring of the sky with the people watching would alone do a nice photo, but with the rising inukshuk silhouette it gets a lot better, and from this PoV as compared to the people it looks really big, probably bigger than it actually is ?
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

This is a superb silhouette, perfectly placed in the compo. But I like even more the silhouettes of the benches and the two people sitting on the bench on the right. The sky is a gorgeous colour. This is lovely work,
Best wishes

Hi Alvin. The silhouette contrast so nicely against that great sky. It was almost necessary to lower the horizon so much to be able to fit the sculpture in. Beautiful shot Alvin!

Hi Alvin, Magical picture that leaves me spellbound. The extra ordinary stone sculpture looks so exclusive and special and used as a 'silhouette' it gives it a very mysterious touch. The mythical subject set against that exceptional sky with its precious colours plays a magic trick for the viewer. This is a top notch work (as it goes for all your shots really) and I think the benches are a beautiful addition to the shot and the 3 silhouettes add a very enjoyable human touch. Great, great work! Hi Alvin,
Beautiful and pleasant gradiant colors, giving an spectacular background to this impressive sculpture, so irregular and high. I'm feel attracted by the "deformity" of the sculpture, abstract, and it's big scale, more noticed by us thanks to the people you has fortunately included in the shot. Thanks.
Angel.

Alvin,
When I first popped this open I thought I would hate the people and benches .. but after looking at it .. they create a wonderful sense of scale and of the ordinary superimposed with the extraordinary .. what a background!
Wonderful and thoughtful image.
take care,

Great shot Alvin;
I love the Inukshuks- and have posted a few (as you know). I really like how you chose this one as a silhouette. Rightly so-it looks great!
I think I'll have to try this shot while I'm back- although somewhat doubtfull of what type of sunset I'll get! Hahaha.
Awesome colors, perfect composition, excellent exposure and clarity. Was that the actuall range of color- or was there some minor tweaking (looks great!)
All the best Alvin,
- Dan

Well the most authentic of these sculptures are in the NT or it Inikshuk now? anyway the profile is an impresive one and best of all is the rainbow transition in the sky from indigo to orange.

Hi Alvin,
Interesting object - one would think of christian symbol first - and very well presented in strong colours.

Hi Alvin,
A high impact shot, perfectly silhouetted. Ilike the symmetry of the benches here and the distant view of what I presume may be Point Grey. The two people in the distance nicely warmify and add balance. A very fine shot from a well chosen perspective.
