"Inukshuk" Whistler 2010, a photo from British Columbia, Western

Photographer's Note

The Inukshuk is a stacked rock in human form as created by the Inuit (Native) people of Canada's Artic.

The Inukshuk was used as a guidepost that provided direction across the vast horizons of the North. Over time, the Inukshuk has become a symbol of hope and friendship throughout Canada.

This particular monument is located at the main lodge atop Whistler Mountain.
Whistler Village is partially visible from here, as is Green Lake.

Hi Dan,
The foreground sculpture does a lot for me as a person who is easily bored by landscapes...I think this looks great....colours really pop as well...especially those far off blues.

Hi Dan. I think I prefer this to your previous one, because of the clarity. Well chosen viewpoint behind the monument, showing the lake in the valley. This one creates a great sense of space and distance.

Well Dan I must say this photo is a very good pre-Olympic photo. I imagine the symbol will look outstanding againest the snow in the winter. Very nice distant view of Whistler and Green Lake in the valley Dan. The tall trees on the left balance the frame nicely with the Inukshuk on the right. Excellent details...a great view!

I love the way you focused on the Inukshuk, so he is standing guard over the wonderful view below and giving an exceptional depth to the image. There is a lovely hazy light on the scene.

Hi Dan,
You made the most of your chairlift trip up the mountain. This is a vast beautiful vista and you have positioned the statue very well in the frame. I would have been tempted to press the contrast button here to give slightly sharper relief to the middle and upper parts of the scene. Still a wonderful shot, with great clarity and definition from that super 5D. Have a good week, Dan.

hi Dan - well you are back already!! Nicde to see the images from Whistler - i didn't get there in the end just too busy in the city and not much break time - certainly on my agenda for the next trip if there is one!! Just back from my last but one journey this summer!!

These Inukshuks seem to get everywhere!!
